You *don't* want the permissions at 777. 777 will cause error 500. Anything that should be 777, make to 755.

I'm pretty sure you can't use addhandler in .htaccess to use php5 if you're going to use temporary urls.
I just confirmed that you can on my own server. I accessed an account with addhandler in the .htaccess over myip/~accountname and it worked with both addhandler php5 and addhandler php4.

Tonight we will be upgrading gator6 to gator12. So far we have noticed one very small issue with our default php.ini configuration on the PHP4 environment.

The configuration problem isn't huge since almost everyone is using PHP5 by default who have been upgraded.

Do I need to make any modifications to my MySQL databases/tables and queries to make them compatible with MySQL 5?

Or everything that works with MySQL 4 will work with MySQL 5?

The syntax for joins has changed in MySQL5, so you may need to change your database queries.

Question Re: PHP5/SQL5 Upgrades

Since ~8:00pm last night my phpbb3 forum won't let people post or reply to topics. When trying I get Error 406. I'm on Gator50.

I opened up a ticket but just checking if it might be related... TIA

Nope, they're not even into the double digits yet.

open it in any editor make sure you have no [white] space before <?php

Save it and this should fix your problem

Will Hostgator email the Reseller Administrators at least 48 hours before the upgrade to PHP5?

Our live osCommerce installation (PHP4/MySQL) www.NewhallStation.com has dozens of mods and many customized coding changes will take hours (if not days, God forbid) to retrofit, modify, and test. We run a LIVE retailing site and we depend on the revenue. Every hour we're down we lose a sale and money. We have to minimize the damage and have enough lead time to prepare and then work to fix and upgrade the potentially dozens of changes and programs.

+1 from me.

This would be fantastic and wouldn't require much work to setup on HostGators side.

I have to agree that after all of this fuss, notification should have been built into their system and process by now. I'm not surprised it isn't; I'd consider it a rare host indeed if they did. I am highly disappointed, though. Massive effort put forth in biting my tongue on that...

They don't have to email us, though. A simple indicator anywhere on their pages, a location they notify us of here, would have been ideal.

As I always say here, though. I've seen worse.

I'm not biting my tongue on this one, though. Just where have you been, sir? Mars? This thread is full of responses to your statement. Read it.

Make your changes, do your testing, now.

I wish people would stop complaining.
You can't stop the upgrade,

PHP4 is a dead system.
MySQL 5 is needed.

OH YEAH?! WELL. I BET THAT IF I TAKE MY BUSINESS ELSEWHERE...

I think we should just forget about PHP, and you know what? We don't need hypertext either.

I'm starting my own host TODAY, because I want to write my pages in High Level Assembly, with no hypertext linking. TAKE THAT.

...

osCommerce joined Go PHP 5 on July 20th 2007

OMG that was a great laugh for the day. A site that does $30.000 a month on a reseller/shared account. And you are calling yourself a responsible reseller.

There is no exuse for that site not to be on a dedicated server!

And in that case, you can do the upgrading -- or not -- yourself.

I think he means the actual sales done,
And also I don't think its needed to email everyone when there servers are getting upgraded.
Im sure they will post it here in this thread or another dedicated thread to the servers that have/are getting upgraded.

My site's been working fine. In other words, they haven't even touched it yet.

Ask them again in 2010, as I'm pretty sure the upgrades will be finished by then. Of course then we'll be getting notices on how they'll be forcing PHP6 on us, in which case this whole vicious cycle will start up all over again.

Well I though that would be a snap.

I got the error,
Code:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ';', expecting ',' or ')'
So I messed around with it some more, and ruined the forum. Good thing it was a forum that I set up for future use, and not one actualy being used.

It should have been:

$HTTP_GET_VARS replace with $_GET

(without the ; at the end of $_GET)

You kept backups, right?

That's the problem, they aren't.

Plus not many people are able with check this thread daily and go searching through other threads just to see if the HostGator staff have posted anything.

HostGator: January 15th, 2008: 700,000 Domains Hosted
HostGator: March 15th, 2008: 1,000,000 Domains Hosted

Hopefully, with hiring of talented people to match it. DaveC's stated intention, a month ago, was 5-10 servers per day when the method is reliable. They would begin March 8th. From the numbers I remember seeing here, assume 300 servers for the sake of an example.

500 / 7 = 71.4

May 18th is 71 days after March 8th. You must at least wait until then to shoot your mouth off.

153 Million registered domains, March 7th 2008.

( 1,000,000 / 750 ) * 153 = 204,000

If HostGator has it's 1 million domains pointed to 750 total servers, and we assume that the entire internet is hosted on 153 HostGators, the internet needs 204,000 of the same servers.

204000 / 7 = 29142.85

You must wait 29,143 days until you can shoot your mouth off about some webhost upgrading to PHP5 and MySQL 5, because there might be a place that didn't. You can buy that, maybe?
