Well could someone from one of the Gator1-5 servers please say if they are currently on PHP5 natively?

We are officially starting (slowly) the PHP5/SQL5 migrations.

The current boxes which are running PHP5 and MySQL 5 natively are :

gator2.hostgator.com
gator3.hostgator.com

We have backups of all content that is going to be potentially touched (MySQL, Apache configs, userdata dir).

The MySQL5 config is still set to latin1 since we were having problems with varchar using UTF8.

This update still allows users to use PHP4. They need to simply add "AddHandler application/x-httpd-php4 .php" to start using PHP4.

We also have a set of pear modules installed that Dave has compiled from all of the servers. This pear module set are the top installer modules, so we will have more support for you guys and you won't have to request them manually. The pear modules are listed below :

Let us know if you see any issues on this. Tonight Dave should be working on fixing any remaining issues with gator2 and gator3 if we see and then begin tweaking the automated process so we can roll this out to about the next 5-10 servers tonight. Sorry guys but this is a huge change and we want to make sure everything is done right. Thanks.

This was always the case Jordan. People can use both of them for another few months before php4 is completely removed from the servers.

The other important thing now is that php5 is the default. Your .php files will automatically use php5 unless you use the .htaccess command.

Hi, the deadline for upgrading to PHP is over, I have two questions:

1) where do I look to find what server a client is with?
Client was assigned:
ns279.hostgator.com
ns280.hostgator.com
with a new IP after he purchased the SSL: 74.52.59.43

I logged on to his cpanel and still see the PHP 4.4.4. This comes to my second question:

2) Once PHP5/SQL5 upgraded to client's server, am I able to run Magento eCommerce software without the domain name pointed to the server?
Client signed up with your company per my recommendation in last November, but we decided to not move his old site from the existing server because of the re-design of the site in Magento eCommerce software, we only found out we can't install the software to your server with the PHP5 enable in htaccess because the domain was not pointed.

We will only have the domain pointed once the new site is completed and ready to go live, but we are stuck because we can't install the Magento (that requires PHP5 and mySQL 4.2.2) to your server right now.

Your client is on: gator140.hostgator.com

cPanel always runs on php4 so it won't show php5 in the info screen.

I'm not sure I understand the rest of your question-- can you rephrase? Perhaps I'm just dense!

Thanks!

First can you tell me if my client's server has already upgraded to native PHP 5? Your response was not clear.

Re my second question, this is what I got from your tech support the first time I enabled PHP5 from htaccess.

"Php5 will not work for temporary URLs. You will need to wait for your DNS to propagate in order to have php5 work for your domain. Once the nameservers are changed your account will work with php5."

My question is, with the PHP5 runs natively, will I be able to install Magento (that requires PHP5) without the temporary URLs (the assigned IP)? We don't want the DNS be propagated until the new website is completed for the obviously reason that the old site still needs running in another server from another webhost.

Up till three days ago, I was still not able to install Magento with the PHP5 enabled in the htaccess because it gives me 500 errors.

No, only gators 1-5 so far (as the post above you mentions, 4 and 5 are having them done now).

You should be able to use php5 over the temporary or true URLs. If you're concerned about it, you can always edit your hosts file to make your computer think the DNS is resolved and see what happens.

500 errors are usually from mod_security, not php5-- are you sure you didn't have any files or folders with 777 permissions?

Thanks again for the quick response. When do you estimate my client's service will be running PHP5 natively?

I was pretty sure I had the permissions set to 777, nonetheless, I will try to install the new Magention again tomorrow

How can I tell if my server was upgraded then so I begin testing the new changes? I'm using Gator125 I believe.

125/5 = 25
125/10 = 12.5

Their estimating 5-10 upgraded machines per day. Just keep an eye on this thread and be patient.

Be patient.

Default Re: PHP5/SQL5 Upgrades

I tested my website with PHP5, and I think that MYSQL5 and/or Apache 1 is causing a problem.

What other conclusion could I reach when:

I installed XAMPP for Windows, which uses PHP 5.2.5, MySQL 5.X, and Apache 2.2.X and I got my site working with a single line in the HTACCESS file. Putting that same switch in PHP.INI on my Hostgator account DOES throw the same switch -- but the site (PHPshop) is still broken.

I have the EXACT SAME CODE with the same PHP5 settings on both machines (Hostgator/XAMPP on my machine at home) only it works on the latter perfectly, and is broken on the former.

I can only conclude that I should look beyond PHP5 as the culprit -- otherwise how would it be possible for it to work perfectly on my PHP5 testbed at home?

I know that Hostgator still uses MySQL4 and Apache 1 -- so which of them is the culprit? How in the world (even if I had days to work on it) would I BEGIN to research it? Should I contact MySQL? Apache?

Thanks,

Matthew

Of course.

Besides...

... that wasn't a safe assumption, either.

Hello,

We need to know an exact date when our servers are going to be upgraded because we have some incompatible files to replace after the update.

Our servers are cbsgrouphosting.com and cbswebdesign.com

Thanks,

Brian

Replace the files before the upgrade, and use AddHandler in .htaccess.

I'm pretty sure you can't use addhandler in .htaccess to use php5 if you're going to use temporary urls. I haven't tried using the hosts file like this, I wish I had considered it before...

Also, a schedule of what servers will be done when would be awesome, that's what I keep checking back here for.
