php scripts

I'm getting ready to move my site to HG, and will be installing Gallery. A question I have is whether php scripts on HG servers are executed as the user (ie, me) or as some other user?

Gallery requires several directories to have 777 permissions, and I'd prefer to leave them as 755. On my old host, I had to use the suggested permissions on my album directories (777) and eventually found some eggdrop/irclordz kits in my directories. So I'm reluctant to go down that path again.

On newly created albums/items in Gallery2, the owner is going to be nobody(99). I HIGHLY recommend moving the data folder below public_html and setting the permissions to 777.

The gallery is actually v1.4, so I wasn't planning on moving to v2 quite yet. But as I'm switching hosts, it might be a good time to move to a fresh install and go ahead and upgrade.

I'm just really twitchy about the permissions thing... I'm a unix admin in my day job, and we get beat up all the time about world-writeable files.
