I just wanted to make everyone aware of a recent phishing scam we have seen going out to users claiming to be from hostgator.com. The email asks for you to confirm your FTP login credentials and is not something we have sent out, the body of the email looks a bit like this :
Dear user of the hostgator.com, Due to the system maintenance, we kindly ask you to take a few minutes to confirm your FTP details= Please confirm your FTP details by using the link below: ***LINK REMOVED**** Again, this is not something we sent out and the link actually points to a different domain with a cpanel.hostgator A record. We are working with the host who controls DNS for this domain to get this null routed, but please refrain from responding to this message or clicking on the provided link as this is an attempt to gain access to your cPanel account. Please contact our security department if you have any questions or concerns about this or feel free to ask me here in the forums. Thank you.

I also had the same e-mail for GoDaddy web hosting.
Not that I host there but I use them as my registrar. Any e-mail that I get that does not have my name on it goes straight to the Trash. |

this scam should be an eye opener to all that the scamsters are still on the loose and looking to steal your data any way they can and to be on our guard from such unscrupulous people in the market. Safety and security above all else.

I am telling this because I am running paid and free webhosting but for free webhosting accounts I won't activated anything coming from free emails like yahoo, aol, hotmail etc ONLY from ISP email address or an email coming from a private domain (e.g yourname.com) and no free domains like .TK, CO.CC. 95% from free emails are just spammers, hackers etc. When they'll put down all the free emails providers and any person will have a private email address that can be trace in a case of fraud than our world will be changed and no more scammers. But this will never happens because this world is running by money not by morality.

Thanks for the information, GatorFord. I wouldn't have clicked on any links unless HostGator sent me an email from a paid email address including "hostgator.com" ( example(at)hostgator.com ) ,

Believe me sometimes they contrive to grab Your name and surname, and the massage looks like from someone who really knows You or you have given them it, sometimes they even can send massages from wherever they want for example admin@ somemail .domain they can send it even from hostgators support, so it's harder and harder to distinguish them...
