Once you change the password to something else, you probably won't be prompted to change the password again.

password reset..... annoying, it's like some idiot coming along and telling you they have changed the keys to your house......, what on earth is wrong with HostGator, was someone on drugs when they came up with this idea?

if someone got your keys, don't you think you'd probably get the locks changed?

Stop with The password changes!!!

It messes with my PHPmyadmin then messes up ALL my mysql/php query's on my website as the entire website uses these

I have been a very happy customer until this.

thanks

You should really consider creating an SQL user for your sites.

I 100% agree with Evan. Don't use your cPanel user information for database logins--create a separate user!

By your statement here, you just stated that you'd much rather have your account hacked and have your websites defaced, used to distribute porn (child or otherwise), and viruses and have your password changed by a hacker so that you can't get in without having to contact support first, rather then be forced to change your password, which by their own admission was being stored insecurely in their billing system, which means any disgruntled support tech that you _may_ have pissed off can get to and do all of the above.

I for one am happy to be forced to change my password when the company whom I am purchasing services from is proactive about their customer's security.

The only question I ever had was why I had to give the password to support when putting in a support ticket. I just hope that those messages get removed from the ticket system since that is another potential place for our passwords to be less secure. While the ticket system is using SSL, it's just a matter of why have it in there even if we do change our passwords? It just takes of of those tickets to have the current password for it to be a security risk

This is the very last straw for me.

I see where you say it is costing you 10,000+ in cancellations.

You can another grand to that total as soon as I arrange with my clients to move.

I was at the last straw after the whole new server with bad ips.

This is just the icing on the cake.

IF passwords were exposed fine. Send emails etc, but to change the passwords for us well..... that is total crap and you know that.

I expected more especially with the lowering of quality tech service versus price. We can save up to $$$ a month for the same servers and since we manage them ourselves anyway no loss in support.

What a waste of my time and I am sure of yours.

Pathetic move and way to lose customers

Any disgruntled tech will still be able to do it , you dont really think they need the password do you?

They shell into a server set up jsut for this purpose and they ALL have keys.

The password in the ticket is to prove you are who you say you are and just didnt guess or gain access to the email account.

and yes I know what I am talking about, having worked for a datacenter.

Regardless of argurments, this just changing of passwords is wrong.

No different than coming home from work and the landlord changing the locks for 'security' and oh yeah you need to contact us for the keys.

Is it really that hard to change your password? Took me a whole 1 minute to change the password and update my KeePass program. Am I more secure now than before? Yes... Will it reduce the risk of being hacked and result in me spending hours trying to sort out the problems? Yes. So whats everyone's problem in having to take 1 minute out of their lives which could result in saving your hours/days in headaches and lost customers? You've wasted more time by coming onto the forums to moan about it..

Sorry to rant but some people do make mountains out of mole hills.

HG didn't change it--your password was reset and you were required to change it. Small but important difference.

When you start phrasing the argument in terms of HG not having rights over its own equipment and software, you're setting yourself up for a lot of frustration.

As long as you essentially rent space from HG, it has the right to require certain things that affect that space. HG does not have the right to demand that you eat ham six times a week.

Landlords do this all the time--would you rather they taped the new keys to your front door? Or not change the locks, no matter who accidentally got keys?

Key words: "... rent space..."
The hell I don't.
The rent is PAID until the lease 'comes due' in March of next year.

Why am I even responding to this? It's lame............

Glad you solved your problem, but why wait until March?

Don't let the door slam you too hard on the backside when you leave.

Isn't it interesting how we all have different priorities in life. Poverty, health problems, various life changing disabilities, password changes. Boy life's tough isn't it.

I think it's funny how the people who complain usually have less than 10 posts to their name here. No contribution whatsoever until there's a problem on their end.

Just my opinion (as always)

No complaining, just want to get a clarification.

I only changed my password today because I have been on vacation. As soon as I did I started getting dbase errors when trying to go to my vbulletin board.

Is that because my dbase user still has the old password, and therefore I need to change the dbase user password to match the cpanel password?

Further, the alternate solution is to create a new user, add that to all my dbases and put that user in the dbase config files, per GatorJess's suggestion below?

Thanks.

If you are using your cpanel username as the database user then yes you will be unable to connect until you change the password in the config file for vBulletin. The best solution is to create a separate user for the database and put that information in the config file of the database. That way you can change your account password as often as you want without having to change the database password. You also can use a very secure password for the database user since you would not have to remember it as it is stored in the database config file.
