Question Password protecting a data base?

Greetings I'm a newbie to the web hosting stuff and could use some help.

I have a data base that the average surfer does not need to have access to. I would like to have it password protected so that a select groop can have access to it without the entire world seeing it.

I've tried free java script from a few differant sites but nothing seems to have worked Perhaps I'm doing it rong?

It's realy not that delicate of info but I don't want the local competition to see it. Any suggestions?

Two suggestions:

1. Spell checker
2. PHPNuke
