Default Password Protect My Site

Hi,
I need to know how to password protect my site. I have watched this video http://support.hostgator.com/article...rectories-icon, which is pretty straight forward. But I am not sure which file protect the entire site. I don't have my site uploaded yet and want to know how to protect it before uploading it.

I know there are items which I need to correct or change before publishing it, and this would be a good time to learn how to make changes to my website. Instead of having a site that is perfectly ready to publish but not know how to make changes.

I know these must sound like newbie questions but I want to try and direct my learning curve time.

Rick

The only thing that you have to remember is that password protecting the public_html directory locks down your inter website ... You can not have people viewing just parts of it without the Username and Password you set.

But from what I gather this is what you are wanting anyway. Good luck.

For know that is what I want to do. I'll have to spend about an hour a day updating content, and I want to practice this now instead of learning it when the site is being used. Protecting certain files will be useful in the future.

Thank you

Now that is part of what I want to fix, maybe I should provide you with a password. Four eyes are better than two.
