Default Overselling = Slow webpage loading?

I am considering signing up for Hostgator's reseller program. I noticed someone mentioned HostGator is an overseller.

I have seen the pros and cons of overselling discussed in various forums.

Will overselling eventually mean that my clients websites will have webpages that are slow to load?

Most of my client's websites are going to be mostly just webpages...no media, or other large files.
Thanks,
Rick

Any host offering plans similar to HG are going to be overselling whether they admit it or not. The key is server management and in my experience HG manages the servers well and suspends accounts that overuse resources causing slowdowns, etc. I have a dedicated server now but my account that was on a shared server never had any problems for the 10 months I had it here.

overselling is just a word... acting on it is a better way of doing things that just using a word to describe the activities of a company.

HG is overselling... and balancing their servers when oversells occur... but actually this is a lie...

HG is selling more and more combos/packages... not overselling them. when a company is doing more clients, they expand or die... HG is far from dying... they are expanding the resources to better answer the clients instead of pushing them all on one machine like a lot others have to do...

it's not the space and bandwith that's being used so much as it is managing the server resources. overselling space and bandwith is industry standard. people buy much bigger packages than they need, and so that's how it works.

it's the hosts who continue to pack people on the server when there aren't the cpu resources to support the accounts that will mean your websites are slow. this has not been my experience with HG. i've read someplace that hg limits it to about 200 accts per server, but i don't recall where.

if you're interested in the topic, i think the blog posting from hg's owner, brent, was a very interesting read.
