Default outbound access to port 8080 blocked?

Hi,

I have a script that wants outbound access to another server running on port 8080. It says connection refused. Is this due to firewall issues on HostGator?

Thanks

I wrote a quick test script in PHP and ran it from an HG server to my home IP address. I set a program I wrote to listen on port 8080 and got "Connection refused". Same as you. It appears that outbound connections to port 8080 are blocked.

EDIT: Tried with port 21 and made a connection. If you can change the port the other server is listening on to one that is allowed, that would fix it. If not, tell HG what you are trying to do and they may put in a firewall rule for you. Might be a problem if the IP is not static.

Hostgator can often open up firewall ports for you if you have a legitimate need for it. File a ticket and explain what you need it for.
