Are there still plans to move us to another server with the new hosting packages?

Hi,

The new server the data is on now is the new server. The old failing drive was left on the old server and everything was synced to the new server you're on now. I believe the plans just need to be changed in that aspect.

The data sync was completed earlier, from what we were able to obtain from the old server's failing drive. If anyone notices any issues remaining, please let us know, and we can try a couple of methods to obtain the data for specific accounts to see if that will help. A lot of data was obtained from the failing drive, which was good, but there were read and i/o errors on bad sectors of the drive where not all of the data was able to be synced back up to the new server. Again, a lot was, but not all. So, if you find you have an issue and want us to try and re-sync or tar up the user directory on the old server with the failing drive and move that data over, we can give it a shot.

It looks like we may be able to obtain more data from the drive, so if you still need data, we can possibly sync it from the failing drive. We're going to sync over all of the user's data to a temporary directory on the new server so it doesn't disturb any existing account data that was already restored. Due to the fact it must recreate all of the files in that temporary area (so we can restore by request or only after verifying the data on an account is too old), it will take quite a while. It can also potentially cause your account to report more disk space usage in the quota. If this is an issue for anyone, let us know and we'll remedy it promptly -- though this is unlikely to cause a problem for any users.

Thumbs up Re: OUTAGE: mercedes (67.19.161.34)

Even though my data could not be rescued (last backup dated march 07) I just want to thank especially Tim for checking and trying different ways to recover my data. I also want to thank Brent, HG and the rest of the crew over at TP for doing a great job, keeping us up to date and helping me out with the problems I've had in the past 24 hours.

I'll definately continue my HG ride

Exclamation Re: OUTAGE: mercedes (67.19.161.34)

I just spoke with Brent about this synchronization. Basically the synchronization from last night was interrupted due to a firewall restart. A large amount of the data on the old mercedes is still being rsync'ed to the new more power Conroe machine.

At this point we're estimating that any and all data should be finished syncrhonizing tonight or early tommorow morning. I've ensured that the firewall restart at 4AM won't occur should the synchronization take that long.

Keep in mind the old machine is operating off a semi-faulty disk at this point so that's increasing the amount of time the synchronization to the new box will take.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks to all of you for being patient with us. If you do have any issues please submit a ticket with mercedes in the subject of the issue and we'll do our best to get you back up and running.

Please check now, the specific account sync failed from the failing drive, but I was able to tar up the data from that drive and copy it over. So, I think only one single email file failed to be read and included by the error log. This is from the May 11th data on the failing drive.

We've been working all day and all night and all day on this, and we'll continue to do all we can until it's complete. Just please pardon any replies I might that might not be as comprehensive as someone that's had much sleep.

Please check the account now. I've safely backed up the last instance before the restore from the failing drive. Most, if not all, of the data appears to be there. The rsync failed, but I was able to tar up the directory.

Please post, PM me or email the usernames that need to be restored and we'll see if we can do those syncs individually.

Ticket number assignment is instant and automatic. If you didn't receive one, did you send the email from an account on the faulty server? You should be using a non-HG email address to create tickets and use the helpdesk.

Also, although this must be tough for the Mercedes clients, I have to commend Tim (and everybody else) on the hard work being put in to fix this. Also, the communication here was excellent--everybody knows what's going on, and when.

I believe there are still numerous problems w/ the server. For example, I know fantastico is dead right now. Last I heard the admins were deciding what to do... I am sure they will announce when they come to a decision.

All of the standard reseller accounts have been updated to the new plans. If you had a custom reseller account created, your limits would not be changed.

It looks like the rsync of the drive from the failing drive is on the letter S so it shouldn't be much longer for the up to date home directories to be in place.

All of the public_html data on the server should be up to date now. I am just working on mail right now to make sure none of the recent e-mails are lost. Everything should up to date in about 20 minutes.

Post Re: OUTAGE: mercedes (67.19.161.34)

hmm been trying to patch my sites based on the march backup over the past 24 hours. Now those updates are gone, but the rest of the site has returned. I am confused hehe, what's going on?

Thanks for recovering everything though Dave/Tim! Even though my updates are gone you've saved me a lot of work when it comes to rewriting a bunch of code
