At 5:48PM Central time our Datacenter informed us that there was a massive inbound attack on the server. The server's IP address has been null routed at this time.

We will update you as soon as we know something.

471 is a crap shoot. If you all can't keep it from getting attacked, then you should move accounts off of it.

Making customer's suffer for you're bad luck is bad business.

Please update gator471 users on the issue. All I got from my support ticket was: "However after looking into this for you the reason that you can not access your sites now as the server that your account is on is now being rebooted and the server name is gator471". The support person was unaware of the inbound attack on the server mentioned in the opening post some 12 hours before my ticket was raised. Admittedly it was a fast response to my ticket which was raised 5 hours ago, but only in the last few minutes can I see my sites.

Is there any way I can find out when and how long the server was down for?

Maybe I'm just twitchy as my 45 days trial is up today :-)

This is pathetic. A site with over 500,000 page views per month rendered useless. Absolutely no updates. The support guys have the same old "we've shut down the server, being attacked, yada yada".

I understand their problem and what they have to do but it's inexcusable to not move our sites to a more secure server. No matter what the policy it is the right thing to do.

As soon as it's back up, we're backing up and packing up.

I do apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused. Unfortuantely this is not something that we have that much control over. When someone is attacking the server and overloading it, the only thing we can do is rely on our Datacenter to put a "Guard" in front of it. Which they did. Once this happened the traffic was so massive that they had to take it down and null route the IP of the server.


At this time the Guard is off, we've found a few accounts that were getting attacked and removed them permanently from the server. Right now we are waiting to ensure that the attack has ceased. If it starts up again we are going to pursue another option in fixing this.

Again I do apologize and assure you that we are doing everything in our power to maintain the stability of this server. If you have any questions please let us know.

Gator471 is a shared server while equinox would be a reseller server. What is the domain and we can check and see if it is up for us?

DOWN AGAIN. GATOR471 DOWN.

I cannot understand why this server cannot stay up -- this has been going on for a week and a half intermittently.

Yesterday it was attacked, then fixed hours later.

Today, it is inexplicably down again.

Please post what is happening to this server and if it's soon going to be taken out of commission because of its inviability as a reliable server.

Not only does this look extremely unprofessional when folks can't access my site, it's not the service I'm paying for.

I hope you are contacting Live Chat to let them know that there is a problem. The sooner support is made aware the more likely they are to be able to catch anyone abusing the server.

Can't we be transferred or block the i.p address that's attacking from the server, then put a guard up that denies some service if it is on the brink of overload without putting sites on downtime?i have no idea what im talking about but hostgator is great, and hackers aren't, so obviously i want it fixed within the next day =(

Pretty sad when a huge company that host 1,000,000 domains can't keep one server going. This server problem has been ongoing for the past few weeks and I have lost a few thousand in sales. So what do they offer me, 2 months of free hosting, then the next 2 days in a row after my site is down for almost 8 hours, then today it's completely down AGAIN. and I lose more sales and look like a completely unreliable business. They should be paying my hosting for the next 5 years or more with the amount of money I have lost due to their inability to keep a server running.
Not only is HostGator's credibility swirling it's way down the toilet, the credibility of my business is getting dragged down with it.

Last night at 7PM all accounts were moved from the main IP 67.18.16.194 to the secondary IP 67.18.16.195 so they could be brought back online. However, the attack has shifted to the secondary IP 67.18.16.195 and caused it to be nullrouted again. We've again shifted back to the original IP and the inbound traffic is low enough that it can be handled by the guards.

We believe we found the target of the attack and removed it from the server. We are also working on a way to isolate accounts so they are not tied to a single IP for the server if the attack does not stop.

We will update this thread when any additional information is available.

Right now our readers are receiving "server can't be found", yet we can log into our cpanel at the ip you state our sites are at.
Please explain this to us.

Are we to assume this is a "let them eat cake" or can we expect to receive the service we are paying for?

Please don't tell us the "system administrators are working on it", gives a real ETA.

Anyone who is losing thousands due to down time on a shared server should not be hosting on a shared server. DDoS attacks are more common on a shared server and a business that depends upon uptime should budget more than $15 a month for such a critical component.
