Hello,
gator205 is still succumbing to the same denial of service that has been plaguing it for about a week now. (3.6 Gbit/s inbound) Both IPs were nulled, and we're working to get this back up and running. I apologize for the inconvenience. |

Usually when something like this is going on, its targeted at a specific site. Do the admins know who/which site is the real target?

This is absolutely unbelievable. My websites have been up and down for over a week, I've wasted at least three hours of my time on the phone with Hostgator.
I just twittered to 1500 people asking for a new hosting service, believe me I got a flood of options one of which I will be choosing today. |

@codex
this could happen to anyone on any hosting server, it is not Hostgator's fault, however it is very frustrating! |

i know any server can get hit with this, but i have to start looking at alternatives. i have some big sites in the works and if this happens when they go live my clients are going to be livid.

Yeah, this is really causing some problems and I'm about to have to consider moving elsewhere as well. IS there another gator server we can migrate to that is not having these problems?

I'm going to see if there's anything TP can do or that we can manually mitigate the attack. I'm sure Dave can nail down exactly what site is getting attacked and null route it or something. Because DaveC is the man.

At this time the server is still Null routed. We are working with TP to figure out the domain that is causing the problems. Currently there is no ETA.

If this continues, what are my options for changing servers? I've had no problems with you guys in the past, so don't want to do a knee jerk jump ship, but at the same time I need to protect myself from this happening again. This is really causing some problems on my end.

can someone explain in layman's terms what actually happens when a denial of service attack hits?

Thanks Carl,
So was this isolated down to the problem domain and what is being done to prevent this from happening again? -Rob |

I believe that we have isolated the problem domain. I left a message for Ford for when he comes in tomorrow to check it out.

Hope that site isn't one of mine; I feel sorry for who ever owns it, being under attack isn't fun. Out of interest, will HG try to help them or will the site just be suspended since this could be seen as 'abuse'? I hope that a suspension wouldn't happen because that means hackers win against HG services! |

Due to the huge nature someone must really hate this person. They are no longer allowed on any shared server in these situations. This thread is being closed to prevent it from getting too long. I'll re-update it if we have further problems/issues with gator205. In the meantime submit a ticket if you need to. Thanks!
