Default option to opt out of HG error pages.

We pay for the hosting here, and we should get essentially that.

This is the only thing that i hate about HG. The error pages, that we have to manually override using .htaccess.

I suggest an option to either enable, or disable this for the entire account (folders, etc).

If the money from the error pages really does goto charity, then many users would probably still allow then, but we should get a choice.

You can opt out by creating custom error pages. Then you shouldn't have to edit the .htaccess.

This is an issue that has been raised time and again, blank.
I even raised it over a year ago: http://forums.hostgator.com/ads-t37333.html?t=37333

I wonder if those on a VPS or Dedicated Server are also subjected to this...

I have:

Regular/Shared - "effected" - self corrected
Reseller - "effected" - self corrected
VPS - NOT effected.

On a ***PERSONAL*** note:

Why the hue & cry? ? ?

OK... you don't like it or agree with it or what ever..thats certainly your/my choice.... but.....

Your "opt out" is do what should be SOP: 1) Check for error conditions, 2)create your own error pages. That should be step one and two, and especially any one doing this for profit as a profession.

While I am not particularly in love with the practice, the means to "OPT OUT" are in MY/YOUR HANDS.

I, personally, am not crying.
I left Hostgator shared hosting long ago, and only returned to see if the VPS hosting was worth taking up.

This is the suggestions section.
An area where you post things you want added, removed, or changed.

Some feel the advertisements should not be there in the first place.
Some feel they should be told the advertisements will be there before sign up.
And a few feel the need to attack those people.

Who is attacking anyone?

I must have suddenly gone blind whilst sat at my keyboard because I do not see anyone attacking anybody

If there is one thing that irks me it is ex customers that come back to make digs at Hostgator.

Maybe I should make a suggestion that once a customer leaves Hostgator that they should have there forum access removed as well.... mmmm.. now theres a thought

There is a feature in cPanel that will allow you to turn these pages off.

your image doesnt work.

and, i created custom 404 error pages, and it still doesnt use them when the page is missing. Still goes to the hostgator spam page.

example:
http://qeoz.com/adfadf (page doesnt exist)
goes to the spam page.

even though i have a 404.shtml in the directory
http://qeoz.com/404.shtml

Edit:
So it only works if you use the .htaccess hack as i sated in my Original post, which Hostgator Staff said wasnt true.

http://www.qeoz.com/404test/adfadfadf (works with ErrorDocument 404 /404.shtml in .htaccess ) :|
