Sorry Justin if this should be elsewhere.

I am a new Hostgator customer coming from a previous WHM/Cpanel multiple domain reselling account.

I am a bit perplexed (since the 'switch hosts' and 'move sites' tutorials seem to be aimed at single cpanel accounts) with transferring ALL my domains to a new WHM account here.

1stly - How do I access the WHM without having DNS changed for the root domain?
2ndly - Isn't there an easier way (as mentioned in this WHT thread: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...=host+transfer ) to move all the accounts without having to download all the bits and pieces (daily backups/DB's/aliases/filters), reaching 500mb+ and then re-uploading each set into the appropriate account!?

Cheers,

M.

To access WHM before the DNS has fully resolved, you would use the following: http://yourIPaddress/whm and then login with your username and password

If there is an easier way, I certainly would like to know.

It may be time consuming, but since many hosts (us included) do not allow shell access, you will not be able to do quick server-to-server transfers via a command line and will need to download and upload the gzip backups individually.

Thanks Justin,

I was trying to access by http://serverip/~username/whm ... doh!

I have finished the downloads (6 hours later) and will be uploading shortly (arrg...)

P.S. Are you the same Justin that had a one-eyed orb-head for an avatar on another forum?? If so then I am making a good move...

Umm, some more annoying simple questions if you may...

1. Before I upload all the old accounts, I first have to create them in the new WHM - yes?
2. Does it matter if some of the accounts had different CPanel skins to what I am creating?
3. Do the packages have to match the same ones as the old?
4. I am using Private Name Servers for the DNS on all my accounts. Do I have to do anything NOW before uploading the root domain? Does it automigically know that it is the root domain (i.e. contains the 2Gb with unlim domains etc)...?

Sorry, I am only asking these questions in the vain hope that some other person might find them helpfull one day...

I never "Justin" as my username on any forums, although I'm sure the guy you mentioned is fantastic, afterall, he shares my name.

Ok, on to your questions...

1. Before I upload all the old accounts, I first have to create them in the new WHM - yes?

Yes. You can't upload files to a site that does not exist.

2. Does it matter if some of the accounts had different CPanel skins to what I am creating?

Not at all.

3. Do the packages have to match the same ones as the old?

Nope. You are free to create your packages to match how they were before, or you may choose to set them up differently. It's entirely up to you.

4. I am using Private Name Servers for the DNS on all my accounts. Do I have to do anything NOW before uploading the root domain? Does it automigically know that it is the root domain (i.e. contains the 2Gb with unlim domains etc)...?

No fair. You snuck in 2 questions that time.

Ok, I have read your question(s) a couple times, and I am sorry but I am not quite sure what you are asking here. Can you please explain a bit more? Thanks.

-Justin

Sorry (and thanks),

Answered it myself when looking to paraphrase...

Just wanted to know about the root account (the one the WHM sits on).

But here's another one.

For private name servers (for which I have on the old WHM account) do I merely change the IP's they are registered to at my domain register (Godaddy)? Or is there another step.

Ta.

Simple as that, yes.
