Default Open the forums sooner.

Ok so i have been fighting for the last 24 hours trying to get Ray Media installed on my server. I have no idea what i am doing, I have never used shell access before in my life but i follow instructions extremly well.

I have tried to learn what I could from the FAQ section of the hosting site but I understand what I am trying to learn is a little more complicated than what can be explained in that section.

I have tried speaking with the the live chat, i have contacted them twice today. They have always been helpful everytime i have used that service and what i needed was always taken care of or explained to me well enough so that I could go on about my business and get what i was after acomplished.

I am not sure if what I am trying to do is a little to complacated for the people answering chat or if they guy that was answering me today (it was the same guy bot times) just didn't want to deal with my questions but I left chat with a little more knowledge but not much.

So I decide to give the forums a try and see if I can learn what I need here. I see the areas I need to access are marked private so I join up so I can get the information to finish this project.

So now I have joined and here I am a member. Now to see if I can find the information I need. What's that you say? I have to wait and it might be 48 hours before I can access the areas I need?

By then I will be frustrated enough at not being able to finish this project that I might just start looking for a new host.

Are we checked to see what sort of hosting plan we have and then given access according to how much we pay? Does someone that only has a shared plan not allowed to see what is in the dedicated section? Since I am a linux user do I not get to read what is in the window plateform? Or is it just that you have to make sure I am a customer before I can read any of the information that might help me out?

Well no matter the answer it really bothers me that I have to wait to finish my project or go tracking across the internet looking for information that might not apply to my hosting company anyway.

For the record, I have a dedicated host, I am a customer and have been for over 2 years. The question becomes will I remain one?

That all depends on if I find a hosting company that will give me access to the information I need before I am allowed to access the information in this forum.

My suggestion is to open the forum for anyone looking. Regardless of how the structure is set up, if shared pans can't see the dedicated area or just that you have to be a customer to get the informaiton. You might just gain a customer or someone upgrading if they can find the information they need and see what they need to have to get the job done.

Hello,

48 hours is the worst case scenario, most accounts are activated within a few hours. We have to do this manually to avoid spam signups (which we get a very high amount of) and it does not matter what plan you have, we just check to make sure you are a customer.

If it was setup for everyone then every forum would be littered with spam bots unfortunately.

Your forum account is now active.

Thanks for the activation, I really didn't want to move my hosting.

oh i am not saying open it so just anyone can post, I run several forums myself I know about the bots.

But the captcha should take care of the bots, least it has on mine for the last 6 years.

"Bots" are not the primary issue. Because the public sections of the forum receive a lot of potential HG hosting customers, they're unusually attractive to affiliate spammers who have tried a variety of creative approaches to snag bogus referrals.
