Hi,
I have a folder in Cpanel that won't delete. I've tried repeatedly to delete it but to no avail. I used Cpanel with another host and saw this problem before where sometimes a file or folder won't delete. I'm not sure why this happens, but there must be a way to delete these folders and files. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Forgot to mention, I also have one file that won't delete. All the other folders and files have deleted with no problems, but it seems sometimes folders and files sort of stick and you cannot delete them. When you attampt to you get this message:
"File Type: can't stat `infini.jpg' (No such file or directory)." yet the file or folder remains in your File Manager. Like I posted before I've seen this problem with Cpanel when I used it with another hosts. Again, any help or pointing in the direction of someone who can help, would be greatly appreciated. |

Have you tried going in via FTP and trying to delete it?

Yes, once before and just a moment ago after reading your suggestion. Neither the folder or the file got deleted doing it via FTP. The folder appeared to be deleted but when I went back to the file manager it was still there. The file didn't move and in the FTP box below I got a message the file didn't exist even though it was clearly in the FTP window, and still in the file manager when I checked back in Cpanel.
Like I said I've seen this before, but this time I'd like to somehow get rid of the folder and the file. Thank you, however, for the suggestion. I had high hopes it would work on the second try. Hopefully there's some way to delete these items. |

It happens when you install a script that creates files and folders with a different user from your ftp user, so you wont be able to delete it cause you don't own it.

Hi,
Actually, it may be because you don't have file ownership... Sometimes if you allow a script to install and extract itself, the file ownership goes to the server and not your user. File ownerships can be changed in SSH at least. But when I have this problem, I'm usually able to resolve it with the CPanel file manager since it's server run... Check with tech!

Also try refreshing the directory... sometimes the file managers or FTP programs store the directory list in memory. So look for a directory refresh button...

I am suddenly having this problem with one file this morning too.
I had two files in a folder, and I used CPanel to move them to a different folder. One file is behaving normally but the other one won't let me delete it or override it, but it still shows up (even though the error message says it doesn't exist.) Any ideas? I've tried FTP, chmod, etc. |

roniabirk-
Have you tried deleting the file via the Cpanel File Manager utility? If you still can't delete it, please submit a ticket to support@hostgator.com and they will be able to remove it for you. Be sure to include the exact name and location of the directory in qustion. -Justin |

Okay - support isn't working out because they keep telling me the file isn't there.
Here is the problem though. When I go into Cpanel - it lists the file. When my page loads (using a script that reads directory contents) it lists the file. When you click on it, it tells you the file doesn't exist. I know that, but then why does it show up in Cpanel, and why won't it delete? I am not sure how Support is going to help me on this if they just keep responding by saying it isn't found. :? Any other ideas? This is the file I am talking about: http://crum.onthedial.com/2004_04/un...en_help_me.wma Here is the page that reads the directory content and displays them as links: http://crum.onthedial.com/index.php?group=2004_04 |
