I'm a reseller on Scion. Our clients have been experiencing email delays for a few months now. Their email can take as long as 12 hours to get where they are going. And the client that it seems to happen to most to is mainly just emailing co-workers..(So it's the same domain).
Each time, Hostgator says "There was a problem with spamd. I rebuilt spamd on the server. Everything should be fine now. " I get the same answer every time.. "This problem was fixed." Only, the problem keeps happening.... Ticket: ZPG-888046 and Ticket: DJX-845784 Is anyone else having problems with this? Or is it just Scion? Thanks, Aaron |

Apart from Aerio being blacklisted once, no other problems with e-mail to any domains.

I had this once on an other HG server and after a few forth and back was definitively fixed. The admin fixing it finally was Shashank

Yeah, so far it has been "fixed" by Shashank, Patrick Pelanne, Richard F., Ford Merrill. And a couple times by people that didn't sign their names (probably because they didn't really fix the problem.)
We continually get blacklisted by comcast, hotmail, and just today - Verizon. Yay.. the drama continues. ![]() Oh, and I just went through my emails and found that this has been going on since the beginning of April. !!!!!!

There is not much you can do about not being blacklisted.
On a shared server there are 1000's of sites and each of them are doing their own thing. Shutting down the offending server is not the solution. You can get yourself blacklisted for the silliest things. I am running a community site where every user tick a box upon registration if he want to receive e-mail or not. He even has the opportunity to stop receiving e-mail or remove himself from the community. One member got angry about something really stupid in the community and started submitting the domain for spam. Now who's fault is that? May I add that an e-mail was only send out once a month. Needless to say he is no longer a member. The only solution, like the "grown-ups" will tell you, is to get a dedicated server. |

Blacklisting isn't really a concern of mine.. I understand in a shared hosting environment there are going to be problems with blacklisting. A reverse IP lookup of Scion (70.84.121.98) shows that there are currently 1137 domains hosted on that server. (http://www.domaintools.com/reverse-ip/).. So i'm aware there is going to be problems.
What really bugs me is the email delay problem. Everytime there is a problem, Hostgator says it's a problem with Spam Assassin, then they say they fixed it... Then the problem happens again.... Then they say they've fixed it again.... . I've been going through this same cycle since April.

Few months ago I had the same problem, It's happened 2 or 3 times...
According to Shashank the issue was "with the server's resolver config"... he fixed the issue and now I have 2 months without email delay.... |

I just opened my account and noticed the same email delay. Is this the normal wait around here - hours to get an email?

Can be a sender or a receiver delay.
When I experienced this a few months ago, was both. The receivving delay is of course server by server and is not replicated to other servers if there is not a CISCO problem but I dont feel, the complaint sems server specific. You can test your internal delay sending a test mail to yourself from the same IP from another domain. |

it's important that you provide to HG the email headers for a delayed email, read this:

Most of the delays for my customers seem to be on the receiving end. Scion gets the email from my customers ISP on time, then it's stuck for hours on Scion, then finally delivered to the user it's supposed to be..(On Scion as well)
The blame is usually placed on Spam Assassin. I'll have to recommend to check the Resolver configuration (like emontano mentioned) if this problem continues.. |

we have accounts on nissan and galant and we have been experiencing the same email delay issues - the delays are considerably more noticable when people within the same domain are emailing each other.
In one case, I moved the domain to a different server at HG, the delays appeared to go away for a couple of days and then started up again. We then decided to obtain a dedicated IP for this client In case it was due to spam blocking on a shared IP. That also seemed to have worked for a couple of days, but the issue has returned. Still no solid resolution. |

First, if there are mail delays, HG is likely working on it... but. You can always ask chat support if there are any delays or if the mail queue is backed up. Mail can only be delayed for a limited number of reasons on HG's servers, because the way they are setup. (using exim). 1. The mail queue is too full and is causing a delay. 2. Mail is BROKEN and no mail is flowing at all. This would appear like a delay, but you'd notice all kinds of mail coming at one time, then nothing. 3. The mail is being misrouted because of a configuration problem. This may be specific to YOUR domain only. You can check your mail routing to see whats up. Chat support can run the email trouble shooter to verify that isn't the problem. (the trouble shooter traces the mail routes). That is about it... |
