It says that you can't "Run any software that interfaces with an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) network."
That doesn't mean that you can't have a java irc client on your web page does it? |

Well, a Java IRC client would connect from the system the client is running on (read: your user's PC), and not the server... The server never executes the Java applet, so the Hostgator servers never interface with an IRC server. The final call is in HG's hands, of course, but I would think this rule refers more to things like Perl, etc scripts connecting to IRC servers from HG's servers.

I don't know about that, because I have seen hosts who don't allow them, so there must be some reason.

Hi,
a Java IRC client would indeed not use the resources on HostGator's servers, so I don't think there's a problem having it on your site. However, I would like to ask you to mail sales@hostgator.com and ask for confirmation. Thanks, Stef. |
