Hi
This may sound a stupid question but does anyone know how many domains can be hosted on a single cpanel, is it just down to space limitations? For example if I gave a person a cpanel with 250mb of space could they host 10 x 25mb sites or if I gave them 1000 mb could they host 100 x 10 mb sites Also is there a limit in cpanel on how many subdomains can be hosted on one domain? Hombre! |

There isn't really a limit in cpanel. There is a practical limit, of course. At some point, there is going to be a problem if you just keep adding domains. I normal number like a few thousand should not be a problem. If you are thinking tens of thousands....

Greetings, all. I'm not only new to having a website but also I don't know the terminology. So, apologies in advance---I know it'll be harder for you to communicate with me. : )
For my site, I do creative writing, etc., and a developer does coding, advanced cpanel adjustments, etc., because I don't have space in my brain to "get" this stuff yet. Since her time is billed and mine isn't, I want to see what I can find out. I have a Swamp Croc acct @ $14.95/mo. I have 3 registered domains, one of which is a retail site and active on Host Gator. Let's call it redwidgets.com. I want to activate red-widgets.com, with articles that support products sold at redwidgets.com. The 3rd domain would be fun-with-widgets.com, with more comprehensive articles. We set up red-widgets.com yesterday, but it came up under redwidgets.com; so there are 2 Index pages which conflict. The same userid/password work for both. I went to Host Gator FAQ's for answers. It says go to Manage Domains in cpanel, but Manage Domains isn't in my choices. So here I am to learn from people who know. Question 1: can I operate all 3 domains on one Swamp Croc acct @ $14.95/mo? Question 2: if yes, specifically where/how does my helper establish red-widgets.com and fun-with-widgets.com on my cpanel? Thanks so much, Annette |

I've never delt with HGs standard web hosting but Im fairly sure that its only set up for 1 web site. Though you can have unlimited domains, they'll all just point to 1 website (the first domain you set up). It seems like you really want seperate websites and not just seperate domains.
Does that make sense to you?

Addon domains are separate websites, physically they reside in subfolders of the main site, but for the visitors of the sites they are separate.

Your "main" domain resides in the public_html folder, addon domains will be in subdirectories of public_html. The visitors do not see the difference.

We set up red-widgets.com at add-on domain maintenance with username, etc., not knowing the username would be visible in the address bar. Let's say we used silly3 username. For those pages, the online address bar was http://silly3.redwidgets.com. Since username is visible online, I wanted one that matches content. So at sub-domain maintenance I added a better username. Now pages open as http://goodusername.redwidgets.com Both usernames are shown as current sub-domains username.redwidgets.com (public_html/username) The username folder has an Index page, which seems to conflict with redwidgets.com Index. Is this usual? I tried to delete the username folder Index, but of course, received an alert not to. I'm working in FrontPage, in case that affects. The add-on hyphenated version (red-widgets) never appears in the address bar. Is this usual? Thanks, Annette |

If you add domain redwidgets.com as an addon domain you access it using url http://redwidgets.com/ (or http://www.redwidgets.com) An addon domain also creates a subdomain for the main domain, but you do not have to use it. If your main domain is MainDomain.com, and you add an addon domain AddonDomain.com, using Username/subdomain name "addon", there are 3 ways to access that website: 1. AddonDomain.com 2. addon.MainDomain.com 3. MainDomain.com/addon/ All 3 show exactly the same content.
