Ok, I've been with several hosting companies since I wandered into this mysterious world a shade under a decade ago and hostgator has been my front running favorite for a while now. So when my sister came to me and asked for help setting up a vlog my choice for a host was obvious.
I opened a new account for her and when the account was set up I quickly hopped into cpanel and went straight for fantastico to set up wordpress... except, for some reason, fantastico did not exist anywhere on the page. Upon opening a live chat session I told the 'agent' that I did not have fantastico in my cpanel to which he replied bluntly: It's the smiley face icon. Should be there. Of course I repeat: Fantastico is not in my cpanel. After a while I finally get told an admin fixed it so I was on my way. After hitting refresh and finding the new smiley face icon staring at me I went in and clicked wordpress only to get this message: Quote:
Went back and opened another live chat session, got a new rep, and told him what was going on: (changed names 'cos I don't want to stumble around pointing fingers at the innocent) Quote:
Rest is irrelevant, agent opened a ticket and said his farewell. So that's my story of questionable service for the day. NOTE: This is not to say hostgator is a bad company as my previous account with them had an immaculate lifespan. I've just never experienced this kind of a goof up even with the worst services I've enlisted.. especially minutes after initially enlisting them. |

Good afternoon,
First let me apologize about the situation that you ran into with this new account. As you stated you've been with HostGator for a while and know this is not our standards. We are growing at leaps and bounds and certain things need to be done to servers when they are brought online. I am sure you got on a brand new server that #1 did not have Fantastico installed yet and #2 had the plans (hatchling, baby, swamp) with the wrong settings for some reason or another. These are easy things to fix and we are working to make sure that all our servers are set up like that when they are put in production, but things change quickly in the hosting industry and one thing we change might throw off another. Do not get me wrong i'm not trying to make excuses about this situation, rather an explanation as it should not have happened but since it did this is why. Has everything been taken care of on your sisters account now? If not or you have any questions please feel free to email support @ hostgator.com , PM ME here on the forum or you can even email me at my hostgator.com email address jloe @ hostgator.com. Again my apologies that these were not setup correctly at first, I understand how frustrating that must be. I assure you that once the kinks get worked out of this new server you are on (which they should be now) that you will see it is up to HostGator standards and we will ensure it stays that way. Thank you for your honest review. Josh Loe System Administrator |

Thank you for the explanation I wasn't able to get out of the live chat agents.
The account has now been fixed and appears to be running smoothly. You can now delete this thread or mark it as resolved, however you see fit. Cheers. |
