The semi-dedicated is still on the order form people. Just as the unmanaged dedicated is. I would ticket sales and see what the response is or better yet, someone wanting one should click order and look for it under the dropdown.

Your account's bandwidth and diskspace limits you see in your account's cPanel.

OK< I emailed sales and here is what you get for $75:
HostGator Unmanaged Dedicated - $75 a month P4 2.4 ghz. 80 gigs storage, 1,500 gigs of bandwidth 1 gig of Ram 5 IP addresses Full root access So this is the least powerful server (Basic one - http://www.hostgator.com/dedicated.shtml). When I asked about the price for an addional hard drive (for backup), it appears there's no such option because the person told me to look at the managed dedicated servers in that case. So I'm not very impressed with that, I must say. |

I was thinking the same thing.
They don't have much to do with each other. The specs for the smallest unmanaged server are not even listed, but if anything you've got it in reverse order. The smallest unmanaged servers are probably the "leftovers" from the managed bunch, and if the latter gets better, the availability of equipment for the smallest unmanaged one may change for the better. |

Since your other post is in the Customer Reviews section where no one but staff can respond I will post here. You said that you have not received word from your ticket. Make sure that you wait on the ticket response and don't keep posting there to ask about an update. Replying to a ticket will bup it back to the bottom of the queue. You could contact Live Support instead and ask if they can check on the status. At least they may be able to tell you whether it is an Abuse issue, Billing, or something else.
I would doubt that it has anything to do with some conspiracy to get rid of Semi-Ded users. |

I've always been fond of you, too, Rick. (Psst: especially that you didn't say there isn't a conspiracy, just that mirko_h's suspension isn't part of it..)

How about you give us the specs for your HDs and we can purchase them and send them to you? An 80GB for $200 is quite outlandish, considering I just bought a 250GB for $86.00 shipped.

When you buy a HDD, the price also includes the cost of getting it inside your box, cost to cover its replacement if needed and any cost which is needed to get it up and running, and kept running. |

5 minutes at even a $100/hour, still inflated... i'm just saying, the pricing is inflated for what you get, i know it wouldn't happen, but to charge over 100% markup just plain sucks... and not offering a secondary HD on the other plans is lame... i'd much rather have 2 80GB on one of the lower plans than 1 250GB by them doing that, it's another way to slowly pull more money out of you, you either buy a second hard drive, lease it, or go for the more expensive priced plan

As Henry Ford is supposed to have said, writing a check to the factory machining service that charged .05 for a bolt and almost $30,000 to (essentially) intall it, you're not paying for the bolt or even the labor to put that bolt in, you're paying for the knowledge that kept the million-dollar factory from downtime.

I don't typically purchase some hardware for them for say $50 and turn around and charge them $50 more for it to install it (if it only takes me 5 minutes).
Yes, I know you need to make money... and yes, there are analogies for everything related to this, but to keep it like this and not provide something as simple as another HD to the packages seems lame, like I said. There "were" two HDs on the second lowest package until they "upgraded" the packages. But as stated, having one 250GB is worse, in my opinion than two 80GB drives. In the end, it'd be cheaper for them to have two 125GBs on the server than one 250GB drives. Not saying anything will change, and I obviously understand people need to make money, HG included, it just sucks, in my case, when you think you are going in the right direction, then it changes for what they think is the better, but I don't agree.

True story:
Years ago I was in the electronics servicing business. After one experience with a customer, (just trying to please), I excepted his unit in for repair. He had the part with him, charged him the normal labor, but I made one stipulation, NO WARRANTY. And it was written on his invoice. 2 weeks later client comes in with the same problem.. Yep, you guessed it.. Told him his new part he bought failed and how much it would cost to fix, total parts & labor. I almost had to call the cops to have him removed from the premises, he thought I should have covered the warranty. This happened in 1973. Needless to say that was the last time I had a weak moment in the next 25 years until I retired from it. |
