Question Newbie Question: Banner ads?

Hi all,

This may be a dumb question, but I figured better safe than sorry, and I can't find a clarification. In the TOS it says that on shared servers these are not allowed:

image, filedump, or banner-ad services (similar to rapidshare, photobucket, or commercial banner ad rotation).

Does this just mean you're not allowed to SERVE banners to other sites? Or does this mean you're not allowed to DISPLAY banners from a commercial service on your site?

I'm new at this.

Thanks in advance!

You can have banners on your site, but you can't use the shared server as a commercial ad-server the other sites pull from.

to HostGator Peer Support Forums!

You can display banners on your site for other services. You cannot run a commercial ad serving service from a shared server because of the amount of server resources it would require.

Cool, having banners on my site is all I wanted to do but I looked at a few other people's pages and none had banners. I wanted to make sure it was ok before I proceeded. Thanks for clearing that up.

Of course. You're not allowed to serve ads to other sites, but displaying ads on your site that are served by someone else (like Google) is fine.

Openx is an adserver. You could not run that here.
