Any further news on setting this up for reseller with or without branding. Much cleaner interface then those available.

Thanks,

Hi there

The following should work fine:

Make a CNAME in DNS for webmail.resellerdomain.com sub-domain:

webmail.resellerdomain.com CNAME IN webmail.hostgator.com

and then

webmail.clientdomain.com CNAME IN webmail.resellerdomain.com

That means that a clients webmail.clientdomain.com refers to your resellerdomain which in turns refer to hostgator.

You can do this on behalf of client if you have access to their DNS setup somewhere or tell your client to do this. They do not have to know Hostgator is behind this.

Paul

That would work BUT it says "powered by HostGator" at the bottom of the login page.

I have a few questions. Does the subdomain have to be created in cPanel first?

Also, I entered the CNAME information and the site is not doing anything different...

No.

The example shown above is wrong.

In the zone file of domain resellerdomain.com you can have:
Quote:
webmail CNAME IN webmail.hostgator.com.
I.e. if you use full name in the zone file you must add a dot at the end.

So, the example above is explicitly the same as this:
Quote:
webmail.resellerdomain.com. CNAME IN webmail.hostgator.com.

That's great, I could have done that a long time ago. But I want it to be natively on my subdomain with customization and adding my own logo (and changing "powered by HostGator"). When will this be available?
Thank you

Hi QuitFinn
Thanks for the correction....

Who else have problems with sending email with the new Webmail?
Am I doing something wrong in a setup somewhere?

I can only send emails local where MX points to Hostgator servers and not to an external domain away from hostagotor servers.

thanks

I get the same thing. Here it is again:

This webmail system is useless if I can't send outside mail.
Please help/fix.

How did you install it yourself? Did you download the script yourself?
Thank you

Default NEW Webmail System!

I have bought my version of Nutsmail on their website and just install it on my server and used a bit of my knowledge to go in SSH and change the Alias to point to the script when user point to http://your_domain_name.com/webmail or http://their_domain_name.com/mail

It is working extremely well and customer have told me that they really apreciate the new webmail interface.

Could you be so kind as to give more detail of how you did this?

Default NEW Webmail System!

Ok this is how I've done the installation of webmail for my dedicated server. This is only for my dedicated server that I have bought here at hostgator. If you have a dedi somewhere else, some step will not be the same.

I went at www.nutsmail.com, selected All skins in the left menu, chosen XPBlusSky Skin, selected buy it now, I have scroll down in the list to find XP BlusSky 1.4.6 with only one skin(XP Skins: $29 USD One time) Add to cart...

I have created an account at the same time that I have bought the nutsmail interface so I could go in after I have bought it to get my licenses number to add it in the config.php files.

You can view and download your order in the My Account section on the nutsmail.com website. So that's where I have downloaded the nutsmail interface in .zip format

After I have create a folder call webmail (in the public_html folder) on my main account on my server(you can choose another account if you wish but I have chosen the main acount because I own it).

I use my main account so I can monitored the webmail and I'm not sure about this but hope that bandwidth will be count on the main domain where the webmail script is insert(should be my main domain) instead of my customer account.

I have uploaded the entire script to the server by ftp in the webmail folder under my main account.(public_html/webmail)

Next I did change some minor thing in the config.php(webmail/config/config.php in the public_html folder) for the nutsmail to work with my server. I have change:
  • line 28 $licence = My licence # in My Account/View Your Licenses on nutsmail website
  • line 35 $org_name = Webmail solution
  • line 61 $org_title = I've called it Client Webmail Solution
  • line 118 $domain = my main domain, dor me 'jbwseries.com'
  • line 151 $smtpPort = 26 (my smtp run on port 26)
  • line 572 $allow_server_sort = true; (I had to change this because I had "Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in...." error message.)
That's about it for the config.php files, make sure to upload it again to your server.

Now for the Alias in SSH, if you don't have your box(I mean have control on dedicated server or like me, have a dedi from hostgator) You will not be able to change the alias in SSH.

These steps are on a hostgator dedi box with RedHat Enterprise 4 i686 and WHM X v3.1.0
  1. Login as root with username and password
  2. type cd /.
  3. type cd usr/local/apache/conf
  4. type dir
  5. check for httpd.conf, if present type vi httpd.conf
  6. Now you have the find the section for Alias, almost at the end
  7. It should be after the SSL and Error Document section
  8. find in the alias list
    1. ScriptAlias /webmail /usr/local/cpanel/base/wredirect.cgi
    2. ScriptAliasMatch ^/webmail/(.*) /usr/local/cpanel/base/wredirect.cgi
  9. My server didn't have the config for /mail so I have just not included here. It should be the same two step as above but with /mail
  10. press the Insert on your keyboard(should be on right of backspace on keyboard)
  11. Now you will put a # just before the two script of the Alias for webmail. Don't delete them in case it doesn't work. So it should look like this:
    1. #ScriptAlias /webmail /usr/local/cpanel/base/wredirect.cgi
    2. #ScriptAliasMatch ^/webmail/(.*) /usr/local/cpanel/base/wredirect.cgi
  12. Next we will create the alias to point to the new nutsmail directory. just right this down(we are still in httpd.conf in vi mode)
    1. ## New Nutsmail Alias
      Alias /webmail /home/your_account_name_of_the_installtion/public_html/webmail
      Alias /mail /home/your_account_name_of_the_installation/public_html/webmail
    2. type :wq
    3. this will write to httpd.conf and save it. you will then be back in directory /usr/local/apache/conf
    4. restart your apache in WHM.
  13. After test any account you have on your server. www.domain_name/webmail it should always show you the nutsmail Interface.
  14. I am using RvSkin so I did go in RvSkin managment in WHM Interface of my server, choose Config in the blue header, then Package-Feature Manager and for each plan I have created, I have selected the Edit link next to all plan and make the change to disable next to Webmail, Neomail, Horde and Squirremail. This will get the section in Cpanel for webmail out so user can't use it anymore.
  15. Make sure to not delete squirrelmail, Nutsmail will use squirrelmail.
That's about it, it's long but if you need help, just PM me for more info or if you need help in installation.

Any news on the reseller version of this. This would be a strong addon for my clients. Can somebody from hostgator give us an update. It seems stable enought to make it a reseller feature...

Unhappy Re: NEW Webmail System!

I cut some things out of this reply..

"We are currently working on allot of new things at HostGator and unfortunately we have set the Webmail system on the back burner at this moment but I will personally see to it that it gets completed soon for the reseller and dedicated customers. Currently we're using it in our shared environment to work out all of the bugs and are almost complete with that.

If there is anything else we can assist you with please do not hesitate to ask.

Itrump: As a heart attack. Every day I deal with clients large and small that request if not demand priority service - even with the extra bonus addons (Thanks hostgator!). And I usually take care of the big dogs first. Unfair? Perhaps, but such is the way of the world. I'm not a dedicated server guy yet, (but will be soon) - just a reseller. Should the dedicated guys get first priority over me. Yup. Absolutely. Even with extra stuff. They keep HG in business more then I do. No biggie. Just business.

Good point Jhive!
I agree with you for the most part, but there is another aspect to service that is more important to Dedidicated and resale hosts. That is QUALITY; I would rather be patient and wait for something that works than have a product full of bugs that will back log my ticket system and make my customers mad and wonder WTF is going on.
What it looks like HostGator is doing by esl posts is testing the new webmail on their shared host to work out the bugs etc. before releasing this to their customers who have customers with more at stake.
