Hmm, I think i get it now...

The new portal has been setup to handle all email addresses server-wide...and it's a shared server...so you need to specify a fully qualified email address...

Whereas in cpanel, it's handling only email on your domain so you can login with your "master" username/password and see all the email from all the addresses created on that domain....

I haven't created an email account for the "master" username and if I try to send email to it in the format masterusername@mydomain.com the server responds that the "recipient cannot be verifed"...I suspect if I were to create that account and login with it I would only see email for that account and not the others...to do that I'd need to login via cpanel with the username only...

Hmmm...still very cool....

UPDATE: I just checked one of my clients emails on their domain that I host and was able to login to the new portal and view the email...but had to use the hostgator.com domain....:/

Now, when you say it will be available to resellers and dedicated...will my client have to come to my domain and login in with their fully qualified email address and password since their domain is an addon to mine (as a reseller)?

I can't wait for the reseller non-HG branded verison!
  • I logged in with my test email address. Looks and runs great, however when you go to OPTIONS and SPAM FILTERS it says: WARNING! Tell the administrator to set the "SpamFilters_YourHop" variable.
  • Also, why is the attachment limit 2mb when I set the mailbox account limit to 50mb? With the reseller version will the reseller be able to decide the limit.
  • Now, the part that says "Webmail System" in the header, can that be changed in the up coming reseller version?
Thanks in advance.

Reply from HG:
Hi,

The Spam Filters should be setup through cPanel on each email account as far as I know. The attachment limit should be raiseable by the reseller once it's ready. Yes the header can be changed as well.
Thank you.

If there is anything else we can assist you with please do not hesitate to ask.

Anyone know when this new system is going to be available to the reseller and dedicated accounts?

THis has a really nice look to it. However, I have not been able to find a way to upload/import addresses. Did I miss it somewhere?
I've been using Horde which allowed me to import all my addresses as do most webmail products.

There are some plugins (or at least, a plugin) for squirrelmail out there that have address importing features. But, it doesn't appear that HG has implemnted one in their system.

Question Re: NEW Webmail System!

Sorry if I missed the answer to this somewhere, but is this new webmail system available to resellers yet? A non-HG branded one would be awesome!! I looked around but couldn't find the answer anywhere...

Thanks!

Hi,

The Addressbook Import from CSV has been implemented. If anyone has any other requests/suggestions for the new Webmail system please share them as we want to make this the best possible solution available for you :-)

You should get the Virus Scanner plugin. That would be a great plus for advertisment.

Major ditto

I'm wondering if the "available to resellers" install has turned out to be a bit more involved than anticipated....

Can they skin each and every squirrelmail install in cPanel? Can they make it a cPanel plugin (ala Fantastico)?

Seems like they were setting up one install on one server to cover all their servers and could purchase only on server license....now we're (resellers) are asking for it installed and in our control (multiple installs across the board)...

Or am I not undertstanding what they meant by "available to resellers and dedicated"?...

Even with one install, it already is showing all the servers emails from every account they have apparently, but how to deliver a domain to the address bar in the browser?

Webmail does not work via SSL layer...

I think Horde, that comes with cPanel, is powerful enough, but why it has no UTF-8 encoding enabled?

Marvellous......

An announcement with 35 (now 36) posts.

I keep trawling through the lot to make sure I haven't missed anything.

Shouldn't this be a stand alone announcement about an upgrade and a seperate thread be started if people just want to come along and say "great can't wait"

In fact shouldn't all upgrade announcements be locked from people posting ?

I understand what you mean, however it's kind of nice when users ask questions about the upgrade and you can look through the thread for 'HG Staff' logos to read their responses and announcements.

I can appreciate what you say esl, but an announcement is an announcement.

Comments, questions, support etc should really merit a seperate thread in another forum. The staff at Hostgator would still join in.

If a notice is posted at my place of work I don't expect to see notes, comments, best wishes, congratulations etc etc scrawled all over it. It is supposed to inform people what is happening and invite seperate comments or discussion.

and you are helping the cause by posting about how you think people shouldnt post replies to an announcement. Maybe you could have posted your complaint under the suggestion topic so that people can respond to you and you could suggest that replies to announcements could be turned off.

Oh well......

Gotta love the idea of free speech.

Any time frame (week, month, year) for when the resellers will get this mail system?

Any updates to the possible release date for resellers? Is the purge feature going to be disabled for the inbox? I tried the shared site and found it possible to delete the contents of your inbox without any confirmation with the "purge". Scary thought to empty your inbox accidently.

I discovered this too. I had removed all important email from my inbox just in case, but I doubt any of the people I resell to would do the same. This is especially dangerous since by default there is no Trash folder and there is a strong chance users may associate purge (inbox) with delete (checked emails).

thanks,

kyle
