New features for Dedicated clients!

HostGator is proud to announce a new partnership with KSplice which will allow us to provide seamless, reboot-less kernel upgrades for all of our dedicated customers.

This will allow us to supplement our already robust set of security offerings for our dedicated clients with very important kernel updates directly from CentOS. Previously, CentOS would require a full server reboot into new kernels as part of its update process. Now these updates will happen nightly as crontab updates our clients' servers and provide another level of server security which would have previously required periodic restarts.

We will be providing this feature automatically across all dedicated servers which we still have access to according to our stored credentials and via request for everyone else.

Please note that in order to initially install this software there may be a small number of servers which will require a single reboot into a supported kernel, from then on rebootless upgrades should function fine.

VPS Servers have had Ksplice since basically the very beginning.

We will probably start rolling ksplice out on Monday, and will have the roll out completed by the end of the week.

How do I know if it's installed or not in my servers?

You should be able to run 'uptrack-upgrade' via root ssh and it will apply any patches to the kernel, 'uptrack-show' will show any patches that it has applied. If these binaries are not existent or uptrack-upgrade errors out for some reason please submit a support ticket and we can get it corrected.

It runs automatically every 24 hours. You shouldn't even notice it run at all.

We currently are showing about 99% coverage on ksplice installs across all of our dedicated servers. We are working on the last few servers on a case by case basis and hope to get them running ksplice by the end of the week.
