Default New domain also become subdomain ... WTF??

Ok some of you probably already know about this: when you add a new domain it also becomes a subdomain of the main/first domain you set up with hostgator. Now i contacted support they said its fine because only i know that its a subdomain.... But what about the 2nd site getting indexed in google as a subdomain of the main site? That wont be cool now would it?

My bigger problem is this if you go to my 2nd added site here its all good u cant tell its a subdomain.... Now click on the logo on the top left and then look at teh address bar... It becomes a subdomain in the address bar. so yes people can tell its a subdomain. Is there a way to solve this problem and is there a way to avoid it becoming a subdomain in the first place... Also is this problem with hostgator only or all cpanel backends.. Thanks in advance for your time and responses.

How did you install WordPress on the second domain?

The "problem" is due to the way addon domains work in cPanel so it is the same in any cPanel site. To have the sites completely separate you would need to either buy a separate account or get a reseller account so that the second domain could have its own cPanel.

I suspect the problem with the header going to the subdomain is something in the WordPress installation. If you log into the admin of your WordPress site on the second domain and go to Settings/General, what are the addresses given in the WordPress Address and the Site Address?

Hey thanks alot, that fixed the problem by going to wordpress and making the changess in settings/general.

Now could please tell me is there a way for people using 2nd site to find that its a subdomain of the first site??? What about getting indexed in search engines, lets say both sites are indexed in google would that make it appear as a subdomain?? If you get the drift of what i am trying to say

I don't know of an easy way for folks to figure that out if you don't have any links using it. As long as there are no links then you should not have a problem with the subdomain getting indexed.

If you had not corrected the setting in WordPress that linked to the subdomain then I would suspect it would have eventually gotten indexed but I don't see any sign of that if you look at the DNS records for your two domains at a site such as http://network-tools.com. It you really want them completely separate then getting a separate hosting account is best.

Google crawls or follows links. If your site(s) don't link to the subdomain, nobody but you knows of their existence and google can't index.

Good, but I sure hope it was Latoya that got banned. One of these days, some novice board admin is going to take EarlyOut's "please ban me" invitation literally.
