Default network issues 7/20/06

Theplanet is having major network issues right now. Many of our boxes are going up and down. We hope they will have this all rectified shortly.

This is not accurate.. The fact that we have a site running perfectly right now without a hitch on g35.websitewelcome.com (custom-metalcraft.com) and others that are completely down (gammill.net and bransonwindmillinn.com) tells me that this has nothing to do with the planet and everything to do with a problem on the box.

Yeah and one of three of the websites down are mine. I don't know what the problem is with hostgator because this is the second time in a month that my site was down. I sent a ticket last time and never got a responce back until almost 8 hours later and it was still down.

I'm not to happy about this but all I can do is wait and loose money. I just hope the wait is not much longer and this will not start being a monthly thing. I like Hostgator a lot and really would like to keep them as my server.

bransonwindmillinn.com has problems (check http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsre...indmillinn.com)

My server is totally unreachable, but I am sure the server itself is running happily (with almost no load)... let's see what is the uptime when I can connect again...

This is not regarding G35. (G35 is a separate issue) This is a problem in the D2 datacenter with one of The Planet's routers, we have several technicians (with us and The Planet) working on this to figure out what is going on.

We will keep you posted.

Planet is still clueless however working on it. They are currently setting up router sniffers, and will be moving the affected servers to a private router.

Is there an ETA on this problem? I am the Golf server and my clients are not too happy.

GatorBrent said that the Planet is clueless, but working on the problem. They are going to install router sniffers and try to insert a private router. You can judge for yourself how long that will take.

Planet said sniffing is done and they did not see anything. They are now attempting to move the affected boxes to their own router which I was given a 1 hour eta on to get it setup.

We got golf moved over and they say that the problem was resolved with the router / location switch. They are currently doing the remaining boxes, so hopefully all will be done within the hour.

I take it we will all be receiving 1 month's refund, as stated on your site (When viewing shared or reseller plans):

Quote:
We guarantee that your site will be up 99.9% of the time we host it. This guarantee includes both network and server failures. If your site isn't up 99.9% in any one month we will issue a full refund for the month.

You do what you have to do, it's your business....

As for my business, I've never been happier with HG... I don't pretend to know all the techy issues, but I've been with hosting companies that were down much more than my server here... that had non-existent support, that answered the simplest requests and questions with, "I don't know, that's not our problem"..

I've been with a hosting company that up and left town leaving me and hundreds of others to scramble for new hosting..

So even after today's down time, I plan to stay... those of you that leave, I hope you find what you are looking for, and don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out..

I don't see how HG could be blamed for this outage. I'm not even sure I would blame thePlanet, though they could have been a bit quicker getting it fixed by figuring out the problem sooner, but I can't say for sure it was anyone's fault.

It silly to leave a hosting company for things that aren't their fault.

I don't think it is particularly important to decide on a point of absolute fault. If you really want to, you can blame the people who started making silicon chips in the first place -- if not for them, this never would have happened.

The simple fact of the matter is that HG is the authority to its customers and it guarantees a specific percentage of uptime. If for any reason that uptime is not meant HG is at fault for not coming through on its guarantee. Nothing more, nothing less. It is left to the discretion of the customer whether or not compensation is deserved and that needs to respected by everyone.

Just my very brief 0.02; I hate to comment on service outages that don't involve me.

Approval of the refund is at the discretion of HostGator dependant upon justification provided. Third party monitoring service reports may not be used for justification due to a variety of factors including the monitor's network capacity/transit availability. The uptime of the server is defined as the reported uptime from the operating system of the server which may differ from the uptime reported by individual services. To request a refund, please contact sales@hostgator.com with justification. All requests must be made in writing via email. Uptime guarantees only apply to shared / reseller solutions.
The TOS does indicate that uptime is related to the machine being up, not network connectivity, so this type of outage doesn't seem to be covered.

Though, other areas of the site say differently:

I would assume that the TOS is the final authority on what is covered and what isn't.

Do any of these network issues also effect FTP..?

I'm on Gator 36 ... My web-site appears to be up OK ... and I can get into cpanel etc ... all fine ...

But when I try to FTP (using SmartFTP V2.0) .. I keep getting a "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it." message ...

Have not changed any user name/password etc ...

Was working yesterday ...
