We will be removing neomail from all our servers on the 26th of of May.
We will be doing this because.... 1. cpanel no longer supports it or is putting it in future updates. 2. We are disabling over 30 accounts a day on all our boxes due to hung processes that look like the below. 0 7964 6008 2060 R 79.5 0.1 12:18.96 /usr/bin/perl -T ./neomail/neomail.pl These hung processes cause the server load to go to 30+ until killed off. This is a HUGE problem and there is no fix due to cpanel no longer supporting it. If anyone has anything they use in neomail we recommend they switch to squirrel mail ASAP. No mail will be lost and all your mail automatically will show up in whatever program you use however anything like address books will disappear.

I knew the Matrix would get Neo at some point...
Just has an info point, that would be done in WHM under Tweak Settings? Or does it need to be fully uninstalled some how? (For us dedicated folks) |

Serra,
You can simply disable it under WHM tweak settings: While it's not something we'll be forcing on dedicateds it's still highly recommended to remove it. |

The following script is going to be the replacement for neomail: Roundcube (GPL'd!)
Description: RoundCube Webmail is a browser-based multilingual IMAP client with an application-like user interface. It provides full functionality you expect from an e-mail client, including MIME support, address book, folder manipulation and message filters. RoundCube Webmail is written in PHP and requires the MySQL database. The user interface is fully skinnable using XHTML and CSS 2. Not that it matters to me, I always use POP for email. I did use Neo a few times I think. Do they look the same?

Heh, I only use the webmail if I'm out of town. I have a laptop now so I don't use it much anymore

Nice... love the IMAP support...
This will be great, because I feel Horde is getting sloppier and more complicated. |

Kmaw,
That's about what it comes down to. With the 3 clients available you have your choice of: Horde: Actively developed but slowly worsening with every update. Neomail: Decent however will insta-kill servers. Squirrelmail: Great but doesn't attract enough users to remove the other two (mainly due to it's 'simplicity'). With Roundcube we've noticed a steady trend of active thorough development, a great look/user interface (complete with very well used AJAX) and thus far all users we've tested it on have loved it compared to the other 3. Expect to see the Roundcube link soon!

Is it going to become available as soon as NeoMail is deleted. Like, NeoMail off and same day Roundcube on?

Evan,
I do believe there will be a transitional phase where both Neomail and Roundcube will be available simultaneously. I'd recommend having your users test out roundcube when it becomes available: I'm certain if you ask them a week later 'do you miss neomail?' their response would be 'what's neomail?'

DaveM,
Your earlier post noted that Roundcube used MySQL. I'm a reseller and some of our smaller clients are not permited use of MySQL via WHM limits (i.e. we limit it to encourage them to the bigger plans). How will this impact them using Roundcube? MikeC |

Serra & DaveM,
Thanks, I hoped it might be that way, I thought I'd ran across something else in the past that was that way as well but just couldn't put my finger on what it was. |

Thank goodness we will have a normal webmail with message filtering (someday).. I would be happy with SquirrelMail but the admins hasn't enabled filtering plug-in

I'd just rather you stick to just one webmail client like squirrelmail or the new webmail system you are using. Using more than one confuses the daylights out of my clients... (I know it shouldn't but it does) When will resellers get the new webmail system?

Why not email your customers to give them notification about something like this? You posted a message in a support forum, with 7 days notice! I'm sure not all of your potentially affected clients read the boards every day, and even if they happen upon this notification (as I did), the resellers still need time to alert their clients, etc...
Now I admit that the number of people using Neomail may be small (I have several clients that use it, but only one that I know of uses the address book), but still, even if one person loses address data because they were not aware of this happening, they're gonna be somewhat annoyed! Why not send out an email? I just don't get HG's lack of proactive communication... |

gdwoods,
Based on the method we'll be using to uninstall it there technically won't be any data loss: They'll just be unable to view it. In the event that they suddenly noticed their neomail missing and needed some aspect of it you could simply contact us and we'll provide you with the data required. Once again there won't be any data loss however it will no longer be available for them to easily select from the webmail list. Thank you for your time! |

When are we likely to get this on dedicated servers? This looks like something that I would use and my few clients would really like. They never had neomail at our old host so I simply took that away as a choice before I moved them over.
I'd really like to give them as a better alternative to Squirrel and Horde. |

Jewel,
After our launch for the shared systems goes live feel free to contact our support and we'll see what we can do about enabling it on your system. ![]() Until then however we're still working out a few kinks and it won't be available for production use. |
