Yesterday, after trying to help a customer find her username password, I accidentally deleted the htpasswd file from my server. Thank GAWD hostgator was able to retrieve it. But since then usernames and passwords are not being written to the file. What have I done, not done? or what do I do now?
I need help ASAP. New subscribers cannot access my site until this is resolved. |

After calling PayPal directly I was able to get some help. Hopefully their suggestion worked.
However, for those subscribers that signed up while the htpasswd file wasn't working correctly, I still need to add them to the system. What I need now is a password generator that generates paypal compatable passwords. example pp-username:criss#cross where 'criss#cross' is encrypted in the htpasswd file. Gawd I hope someone understands what I mean. I'm really getting frantic trying to get this fixed up.

When I access htpasswd file via FTP it says access denied on trying to chmod it to 755 (as per PayPal). If I access htpasswd file in the cpanel it will allow me to change permissions but the file remains unwritable.
is it possible it is not staying chmodded? Any help would be um, helpful! Paypal tells me it is a permission issue. The paypal.pl file has not been altered in anyway. The issue IS indeed with the htpasswd file. Here is the error log /public_html/gardenpath/members/.htpasswd - Permission denied [Tue May 6 11:30:48 2003] paypal.pl: main::file_open '/public_html/gardenpath/members/.htpasswd','+<') called at paypal.pl line 349 *deleted home/username/ from actual path* |

You sure that's in the right directory? I thought it was like /home/username/htmlfolder/file ??

I'm not sure if you figured this out or not yet but email support@hostgator.com with full details on what the problem is. I will have the sys admin who brought it back from deletion take a look.
