I currently have 2 domains registered and hosted with another company. I have signed up for an HG hosting account tonight and changed the nameservers for domain #1 to the HG ones with my current registrar/hosting co.
I have some newbie hosting questions. 1) For domain #1 do I need to transfer the domain to HG? Or once the nameserver change is propagated, just move my site files over to HG via FTP and cancel my current hosting? 2) Since HG allows you to host more than one domain on the account I have, how do I add the 2 domain to that hosting account? Do I again change domain 2 nameservers over to HG, allow to propagate, and then cancel my other hosting? 3) I know this topic was discussed in some other posts, but I'm still not clear on how a domain is managed via c-panel once the nameservers have been pointed to HG. Can someone please explain this or point me to a post? I do have a years worth of hosting and site mgt. experience via C-panel but have never needed to switch hosts and that end is all new to me. Thanks in advance for any assistance, Mike |

If you get a reseller account you get WHM, and with that you have full access to records of every domain you host in your account

Thanks, that confirmed what I was thinking. I need some additional clarification on this though:
"Through cPanel you do not have access to the domain, i.e. you can't change/modify/add any records of the domain (except MX record). If you get a reseller account you get WHM, and with that you have full access to records of every domain you host in your account." Can't change any records of the domain? Please forgive my ignorance but what does that mean? What is the MX record? Do I need to have a reseller account to build a website? I choose this hosting because I could host several domains/websites on the same account for one price. It was costing me $11.95 a piece to host 2 domains and websites at the other provider. I'd like to register 10 or 12 more domains to be hosted on this account with the associated website, did I select the right package? Sorry for the dumb questions and thanks for your assistance. In a shared account you get one cPanel. With that you manage one or more domains. The 1st domain is the "primary" domain, and the others (if any) are addon domains (or parked domains).
In a reseller account you get WHM (Web Host Manager). With that you can create accounts, and each account get it's own cPanel (and each account can include several domains if you want). So the biggest difference is that in a shared account you have only one cPanel, and in a reseller account you have as many Cpanels as you want and need. And if you don't know what domain records are then it means that you don't need them

Depends on what you are using them for. I'd say the biggest difference is that on a reseller account, you an have as many IP addresses as you need. |

I wish to not have each domain on the same class C because of the search engines ignoring the sites. I would want to get all of the sites I host indexed. |

Forgive me for interjecting, but if I have my own site (primary domain) and then a friend or client's site on a shared hosting plan, then does that mean Google and other search engines would completely ignore the second site/domain? That's a biggie, if so.

![]() There can be hundreds of sites using the same IP, and thousands of sites in same class C, and they are all indexed by the search engines. The only reason I could imagine you'd need IPs in separate class Cs is if you are trying to fool the search engines

There's a line between link farming, which is bad, and creating high-quality inbound links between your sites. If you're link farming, even with sites on different class Cs, search engines won't like it. If your links are meaningful, high quality links, it won't matter that they're on the same block.
