Default MySQL & FastCGI Upgrades.

Dear Customers,

Over the next week we will be upgrading HostGator's entire fleet of servers to MySQL 5.1 and simultaneously installing FastCGI. FastCGI and MySQL are designed to run applications at faster speeds and increase overall database and system reliability, as well provide more advanced tools for database administration.

To ensure the upgrade goes as smoothly as possible, the planned FastCGI installation will include a PHP5 wrapper by default. The wrapper will make it easy for customers to use PHP5 with FastCGI immediately and quickly.

Customers using development frameworks such as Django and Ruby on Rails will need to use a common FastCGI wrapper. These wrappers are included in a majority of applications requiring the popular development frameworks.

The upgrade from MySQL 5.0 to MySQL 5.1 is a minor one. We do not expect the upgrade to result in any issues whatsoever. We will begin the upgrades on all of our shared servers over the next 7 to 10 days. Once the upgrades are complete there we will move on to our reseller servers. We recommend that once the upgrades are complete our resellers update their websites to include FastCGI support for Ruby on Rails as this can be a strong selling point for potential resold clients.

As always, our support team will be more than happy to assist any customers with questions or concerns.

We are currently upgrading gator10 to 19 and gator100 to 199 at this time. You might notice a short outage while PHP compiles with the new MySQL library.

We will be upgrading gator20-29 and also gator200-299 tomorrow. You might notice a short outage while PHP compiles with the new MySQL library.

I don't know anything about FastCGI. What does it do and more importantly how is it implemented and how does it affect websites?

On second glance, the wiki describes it much better http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FastCGI

Are the upgrades still ongoing for gator100 to 199? I am on gator133 and I noticed mysql errors started around midnight and are still happening as of around 9am this morning.

You should let support know ASAP. I don't think the outage was supposed to be nearly that long.

I ran some repairs/optimize on my vbulletin forum tables and that seemed to fix the problem .

We found some issues with tables after the upgrade. At this time we are repairing all the tables to correct these issues and fixing the issue so this does not happen on future upgrades. This will probably push back our upgrade schedule . We will update this later this afternoon/evening with a new schedule update.

Thanks

Every since this upgrade was pushed through I've had to call support twice to address MySQL database errors. Invalid SQL and table errors. Never had any such errors prior to this upgrade. I'm running vBulletin 3.6.5

My last ticket number was EBD-3473053

EDIT: As I write this my site is down with a MySQL table error that was repaired earlier this morning and only stayed working for about 8 hours or so.

Same thing is happening to me now. My forums on vbulletin have gone down about 3 times today already. Each time the forums are completely unreachable. I have to log into cpanel and run a repair on the database to get it back up.

Same here, had my forums go down twice today so far with table errors, the last one being about 20mins ago. Both times I've had to run a repair on the database to get everything up and running again.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to submit a ticket and let them know so that the techs can check the update scripts to prevent the problem.

I am on Gator19 and have the same issue on my PHPBB3 database.

Could someone post how you go about "repairing" your database.

  1. Log in to your cPanel.
  2. Under Databases select MySQL Databases.
  3. Part way down the page is an option to Repair DB.
  4. Select the database that you want to repair and click the Repair DB button.

I keep getting "Crashed" tables on Gator133. I'm ok repairing them but it's causing a bit of hassle. Happened twice today but I guess this will settle down soon.

To quote some advice from another thread:

He said it so much better than I ever could.

I am on gator 162

twice today i got this error message

145 - Table './*****/whos_online' is marked as crashed and should be repaired
delete from whos_online where time_last_click < '1233255666'
[TEP STOP]

I fixed it by going to the cp and repairing database.

I also have intermittent problems with my ad serving script. Yesterday, after GatorJosh's post, things started working again. But today - no ads showing. Great. I'm so impressed.

No notice about this upgrage (and I don't consider thinking...hmm..must take a look at Cpanel or HostGator forums to be notice) and problems all the way ever since.

OK guys. This is getting ridiculous. My database errors out about 1 - 2 times a day.

There is obviously a major problem with this new upgrade and it is wreaking havoc on all database driven sites on your servers.

This is starting to get very very annoying.
