Hi, I'm getting pretty upset with all the problems at Hostgator the last few days with First my server being down, and the last couple of days with the MySQL databases being down OFTEN. Is it possible to move from a server with MySQL 5 to one with MySQL 4? I need something more stable.
Here are some of the times I've been down: Hi Support: Following is a list of the times when my server (mainly MySQL) has been down. There are more reports, but these are a good sampling. The processes are checked by more than one company, from several different areas/locations. I have submitted a ticket for moving my site to a different server if this issue can't be resolved today. The only issue I see in moving is moving from MySQL 5 to MySQL 4 databases. Third party monitoring isn't very trust worthy.... so I'm not going to comment on the system being up or down based on that.
Moving from mySQL 5 to mySQL 4 could be a bit of a problem. |

I'm on the same sever as Rebecca and I'm having the same problems. MySQL just randomly stops working some times. It's hard to lodge a support ticked about because the problem is intermittent and prone to fixing itself before a ticket can be lodged.
I'm not using any third party monitoring I just have a cron job on the server that fails reporting mysql errors periodically. |

I am also having a problem. Joestrucks.net ... I was going to update the site this evening and I discovered the database was down... I promised my client I would update and now it can't happen - worse, the database is down and now no inventory is displaying.

Please reference the ticket you have open regarding the situation.
Also note that as the server is both mysql 5 and php 5 there will be more frequent flukes than a tried and tested mysql4/php4 system. With that said I cannot see any outstanding problems on the server. Most (if not all) of your mysql issues are probably directly in relation to maintenance which could add "downtime" if you have your monitors checking every minute. Cropsy, Problems rarely resolve themselves: Fairy tales like that don't exist for us behind the helpdesk. We have a very thorough monitoring system in place that allows us to take care of most issues before users even notice them. |

Hi GatorDave:
My Ticket Number was: XIY-81261. Tech Support acknowledged there was a problem (and as of today 11/17/06) is a problem as it has been down off and on all day long. I understand Serra that 3rd party site monitors can sometimes give false positives for a variety of reasons. To help prevent that... I am signed up with 5 different free monitoring companies. (Each monitoring several different ports). If just one, or even two showed a problem I might not think much of it. Several of these though check from several different regions, so if all of them are showing the site (or a MySQL) is down, and then I check... and its down...its having problems. I think part of the issue is that I had asked to be on a server with MySQL 5 (and only PHP 5 is offered on that server) so I think the support team still has a lot of kinks to work out of this server system. This could be a problem with somones script and somone else trying to inject them. If it fixes its self before you can lodge a ticket that is most likely the problem, somone is getting injected.

I'm getting lots of "Mysql server has gone away" error messages from my vBulletin forum. It's getting really bad.

This was being cause by the wait_timeout being set at 25. This has been modified and all should be better now.
