i noticed that when i click on the mysql icon (from cpanel) that "Access hosts" has "192.168.1.%" listed, i did not set that up. any ideas on why or if it's needed?

Hi Cho,

192.168.1.% and localhost are standard.
192.168.1.% matches all machines in the private network 192.168.1.0 and localhost matches your server.
If you remove this you won't be able to access the database from programs that run on the server, f.e. phpmyadmin.

Bye,
Stef.

i assumed that phpmyadmin and the like were running on localhost already, never heard of it being on a seperate machine...anyhow, since RFC1918 nets are not typically routed on the internet i shouldn't be worried, just curious.

they do run on your server (localhost) indeed, not on another machine.
