My server is currently on MySQL 4.0.18. I'd love to be able to utilize some of the 4.1 features...

sonic is right.
Obviously we cannot adopt any new technologies while they are still in the development stage. We will be upgrading to mySQL 4.1 as well as PHP5 after they have gone gold and we have been able to test installations on our servers.

HG,
Please give us a warning some days in advance, before you upgrade to MySQL 4.1. Also, I would like to know how you plan to upgrade (maybe along with PHP upgrade to version 5) and how (if) you think we are going to be affected. Thanks, sonic |

So,
Are the folks at PHP and MySQL going to have a nationally televised spot where they say "We've gone gold."? How do we find out? Who decides this? Or, once a production-level version is released, that's all and that's it. And this whole "Gold" level bizness is purely subjective on a company by company basis? Is HG just trying to delay having to deal with the onslaught of customer service requests that will inevitably follow? Is it a money issue? In other words, would HG have to purchase upgrades to Fantastico, etc.? Or are the folks who supply these 3rd-party add-ons (e.g., Fantastico) not ready for PHP 5.0.x and MySQL 4.1.x? Just curious, -John |

Up until about a week ago MySQL 4.1 was still listed as "Experimental" in WHM. That would be the version of WHM Hostgator has, not the one we have access to. It's the one with server settings. Maybe they're apprehensive about something labeled experimental. But, I've been running 4.1 on a VPS for about 6 weeks now with no problems.

I agree....at the moment I'm in the position where I've been using 4.1.x on my localhost for a while and my code is starting to depend on 4.1.x funcionality...simple functions that I use and are implemented in 4.1.x would be chaos to do in 4.0.x wihtouth additional PHP programming...
for example..TIMEDIFF() function was added in 4.1.1 ..... Any thoughts HG????? |

I believe this is still being tested on our servers. If everything pans out, we will upgrade as soon as possible. We will let you know more about this in the News & Announcements forum when the time comes.
