Firstly G'day from Australia !
I've just had my site migrated from another (grrr I hate those amateurs) hosting company to hostgator and I must say you guys work fast ! I have not transferred the Domain name yet because I need to know that my site is up and running on all 8 cylinders before I do that. Hopefully there will be minimal site traffic disruption this way. Which leads me to my current problem: Although I can view my site with the link provided by hostgator until the DNS propogation is complete, my new account will not display any images on any page at all. I'm assuming this is NOT normal ? (I've only ever migrated far smaller sites myself, by hand) My page code hasn't changed and my new server permissions look identical to my old host. I'm stumped. My new hosting is here: http://74.52.67.162/~dudeworl/ my still operational site is here: http://www.dudeworld.com.au Any help or advice is very much appreciated, I really need to get dudeworld tuned up and spinning its wheels in Texas ! I'll apologize in front if this question has been asked and answered before, I couldn't see a thread on it anywhere. Cheers, Richo. Last edited by dudeworld; 02-28-2008 at 09:37 PM. |

This is quite normal, do not worry to much! If you want to see your site more properly before it is propagated, you will need to use a HOST file.

Try making the link in the form of "HG.IP.ADD.RESS/~username" (without the ") so that we can go to the site and take a look. |

Ahh, thanks for pointing out the dud link skeetr.. tis fixed.
It should have been: http://74.52.67.162/~dudeworl/ regentronique: thanks for that. I've already tried the hosts file thing and I couldn't get it to work, either on this desktop or directly from my webserver box in the corner. I tried modding the original hosts file and also writing a new one.. still no dice (hence my angst... rofl). So I take it that as soon as my DNS resolves to the hostgator server my images will automagically work ? |

The images are showing an incorrect path:
http://74.52.67.162/images/skull_s1.jpg It should be: http://74.52.67.162/~dudeworl/images/skull_s1.jpg |

Cheers, Koni but I already tried remapping the paths on a couple of test images, no dice. Every other server I've ever been on (quite a few over the years) did not require a full URL path for an image or asset, just pointed at the /folder/image.extension Thanks for the suggestions so far ! |

You say you have tried remapping, but did you try doing it exactly the way Koni suggested? Not sure if you have tried it yet, but another way to try to remap would be to delete the IP address all together and just start out with the /images/filename. Hope all works out well for you. |

In this case it will point back to the root of the webserver which is http://74.52.67.162/ rather than http://74.52.67.162/~dudeworl/ When you have your domain name propagated it should work fine. If you wish for it to work now you would need to change the path for images to not have the first forward slash, "folder/image.extension". |
