Maybe is due to MySQL upgrade - I had problem with a 3rd party postnuke module, working fine with MySQL4.025 but not with MySQL4.1.

You should check the mambo support site.

I would also advice anyone who is using an open source project to check the official site for any problem with MySQL4.1

I'd guess that your files are somehow corrupted. There is no real php code in a language file, just defines.

Just recently many Joomla/Mambo sites in HG got hacked, maybe this the same

Kosta, while you tried to translate/edit the greek.php file you had some extra " OR ' somewhere...
Code:
Generally when inserting these charachters escape them with \" or \'
Example
DEFINE('_TEMPLATE_WARN','<font color=\"red\"><b>Το πρότυπο δε βρέθηκε! Looking for template:</b></font>');

I found out my PHP_Nuke sites were also hacked. 4 sites went down coinciding with the issues hostgator was having. The last of those sites went down Thur or Friday. Many of the files were corrupted and a complete re-install or backup was needed. You almost could not tell it was hacked. After replacing enough files to get past the parse errors there were additional links put in that were barely noticable in key areas. Getting rid of the link wasn't enough as then the module didn't work. By the time it was over it was easier to rebuild.
