Default Is my domain locked? Will it renew automatically?

How do I find out whether my domains are locked--prevented from going to another host without my knowledge ( I want to stay here!)
I understand if I don't pay the annual renewal fee on time, someone can take my domain name. I hear some places will perform this renewal automatically. Does hostgator? Do I make a setting somewhere to make this happen?

Just thought of another question: I bought several domains elsewhere, then moved them here. Will HostGator bill the renewal? if not, how can I get hostgator to do the rebilling? If I'm here, I'd just as soon they get my money.

I suggest you email sales at hostgator dot com to get the official answer.
