Hi,
I'm looking to switch hosts and have a question about this service. What will the directory structure look like for multiple domains? I saw another hosts once that made your first domain the default folder and other add-on domains subfolders of that. if the first domain I register is domainone.com, I'm guessing all it's files will be in a public_html/ folder when i add domaintwo.com, will it's files be in public_html/domain2/ OR will it the structure look something liek this: domainone/public_html/ domaintwo/public_html/ Thanks much |

Ugh, that's very disappointing. I really don't understand why hosting companies do this. Anyone know of hosts that don't do this?

It's not the Host's decision, that's simply the way that cPanel works to allow multiple domains under a Shared account.

If you get a reseller account you could give each of your domains its own cPanel.
I have a shared account. My main domain is not one I use for a site. I just use it to hold my addon domains and test folders. It works for me. |

I don't know what version of cPanel HostGator servers are using, but if it's version 11 then you can choose the "Document Root home" of the addon domain.
http://www.cpanel.net/support/docs/1...ins_addon.html "When you place the cursor in the "Subdomain/Ftp Username" text box, cPanel automatically fills in the username and "Document Root home" text boxes for you. You can modify these to your specific needs, but generally the default entries created by the system will work."

Not really sure if this is the right way to ask this question, but the reply pasted below quoted from above brings me to a question on using FrontPage Extensions.
Lets say for example that domain1 is a Frontpage site and I use FrontPage to publish the site with Frontpages http feature. But domain2 is not a Frontpage site and I use a standard FTP program for that site.Or it could be the other way around. The question is Since FTP breaks the Frontpage extensions will I be able to use Frontpage in either site or only one and if so which one? you can determine the doc root for each domain... by default it puts everything to /public_html/domain.com but you can change that to something other then a subfolder off of your main public_html. for example I set my other domains to domain.com/public_html. that way the main site is at /home/username/public_html and all other domains are at /home/username/domain.com/public_html. Hope that answers your question.
