Hello HG support and customers,
I'm researching if HG will fit my hosting needs and have some questions: 1) I currently have four domains each with their own website and anticipate adding more as time goes by. Is there an incremental charge for hosting more than one domain? 2) How would I set up the additional domains? 3) My current host uses blacklists on their mail server. The IP address that my ISP assigns to my computer when I connect to the internet is one of a pool of IP addresses that appear on a particular blacklist. When I use Outlook Express to send email from my computer via my domain mail server it gets rejected because my IP address is screened against the blacklist. My ISP's mail server will not send the email from "me@mydomain.com" because it isn't my ISP email address. I have contacted my web host and my ISP to request a resolution and both have ignored my request. The only way I can send email from my own domain mail server is by using webmail access which is inconvenient and slower. Would I be faced with the same roadblock with HostGator? Thanks for your help. redhouse |

Redhouse,
You can install and host as many domains you wish. The only limitations you'll face in doing that would be your actual storage space and/or bandwidth. So you'll need to keep that in mind when you're selecting the size of your package. Setting up the additional domains is very easily done through your webhost manager that comes with your package. I've only been reselling for 3 months and now have it down to a 3 minute job for new domains and about 10 for transfers. Sorry to say I have no idea on how to answer your last question other than if your isp server is blacklisted you might want to consider changing isp's. Wendell Adkins AdkinsWebHost.com |

Even if you don't have a reseller package, it takes just a minute or two with cPanel. The biggest difference between reseller and shared hosting seems to be that with the former, you get a cPanel for each domain, and with the latter you administer all of your domains through the same cPanel (actually easier if you're the person who's doing all the administering.)

Mail you are sending through your domain's mail server shouldn't have anything to do with your ISP's mail server. Of course your ISP's mail server won't send emails that are being sent through another email server...you've got to configure your email program to use the correct outgoing server (your domain's). If you're sending email via your own domain mail server, then it should be irrelevant if the ISP is checking its own assigned IP addresses against its own blacklist because your mail would be being sent from your domain's mail server's IP address, not your ISP's. If it is your host's server's IP addresses that are blacklisted, then, in effect, your domain's mail server is also on that blacklist because you're sharing the IP address being blocked... but usually blocking would happen at the receiving end--the recipient's incoming mail server would block it. If this is a configuration issue (having the email program on your computer use the correct outgoing server), you should check out Thunderbird, instead of Outlook, because it's way more flexible about your SMTP settings. |

Thanks for your responses. I've gotten some clarification from the support staff as well and will be going forward.
Not sure as yet how to resolve the email issue. Current situation is that my own domain email server is rejecting the connection from my PC to send the email. I'll post if I find a solution and if anyone has any further ideas, please post as well. Thanks, redhouse |

I occaisionally had issues with "host not available" or some such til I started using my isp smtp account for sending. You might want to try that.

HostGator servers accept connections in port 26 also, so you should try that.
