Hi,
I just had a support chad with a HG rep who told me that there is no way to globally back up all accounts under my reseller account... Why not? It's silly that I would have to generate the backup from the individual cpanel of every account. My suggestion for improvement would be to allow a multiple account backup. |

HostGator backups all accounts weekly. Not to mention your clients can download backups of their accounts.
I think downloading backups of all your clients account is a little overboard IMO. Fear not, your data is safe with HostGator.

Unfortunately I have to disagree with this. Keeping your own backups are a vital part of running a website, especially if you're a reseller.
The limitation is part of cPanel; unfortunately, it's really only the root user that can do it easily. There are some scripts on the forum (if you do a search) that can help you automate the backup process in each account. You can't rely on any one company, even HostGator, to back you up. There's a 100+ post thread in shared support right now affirming this.

And how do you figure your data is safe? What if HG shut down? What if The Planet Shut down? What if an account has too many inodes?

Data is not really safe until it has not just one, but two, different backups in different places from the original.
There's some elaborate math somewhere that charts this, but as they used to say when you could get an entire DOS system onto a 400k floppy, you need two separate backups because if something is wrong with your machine and it's destroying your data, you won't realize that until it ruins the first backup.

you might want to check out this script serra recently suggested, back me up, and see if you can run it in your situation... http://www.systemabuse.com/scripts.php
