Default Moving Site and Setting-up

I just registered for a reseller hosting package and I just want to clarify how to move my site over.

I know the first thing required is changing my name servers where I registered my domain. I would like to use the private name servers listed in my email which are ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com.

Do I have to change anything else other than moving the pages for my site?

You should contact support thru LiveChat, and they can steer you in the right direction faster than waiting for peer help here. You should be up and running in no time.

You can also fill out the form at https://secure.hostgator.com/transfer.php and HG can try to transfer your account over. It is pretty straightforward for them if the old host uses cPanel.

Hi New2This and Welcome to Hostgator

It is actually not advised that you change your nameservers over until you have copied your content into your new hosting account. The reason for this is because if DNS Propagation completes before your content is uploaded, it will start reading from the empty account and show your site as incomplete or down, which most do not want to have happen.

Here is a list of helpful steps for readers on moving from host to host:

1. Order Hostgator hosting account.
2. Receive your welcome email.
3. Backup all files for old hosting account (Full backups) to ensure no data loss.
4. Copy files to new hosting account yourself or Request transfer of files
via the proper form for your type of account with us.

a. Shared: https://secure.hostgator.com/transfer.php .
b. Reseller: https://secure.hostgator.com/resellertransfer.php
c. Dedicated: https://secure.hostgator.com/reselle...rdedicated.php

5. Make sure everything is up and running correctly by going to
http://serverIPaddress/~yourusername/
6. Change nameservers for domains being moved at the domain registrar.
7. Wait for DNS propagation to complete (up to 48 hours).
8. Cancel old hosting account if you wish.

As an added note to new Resellers:

The first thing you should do when you log in to WHM for the first time is ADD PACKAGES. Once you add packages, do the following:

Click List Accounts
Hover your mouse over the words Reseller Setup under Package across from your main domain
Click the white notepad
Upgrade your main domain's package to a new package

If you do NOT do this, your main domain will only be able to create 1 of each item including Addon domains, email accounts, and databases, as well as only have 1mb of space and 1mb of bandwidth, so it is ESSENTIAL that this be done first.

Thanks!

I have completed 1-4 and am now waiting for the transfer. Will I get an email telling me the transfer is complete??

It's easier for many new resellers to understand this step if it's called "create packages"...otherwise, some try to add accounts to packages that haven't been made.
