I am preparing to move from Reseller to VPS Level 3. I have about 28 websites. Host Gator said it would take 24 to 72 hours. I know I can download cPanel backups for each site, and reinstall them myself, with the VPS. I might just do that, so that I can control exactly when everything is moved. I am just wondering what else should I expect to be an issue? I know that once the cPanel backups are reinstalled, I will have to change my nameservers to reflect the new account. One of my questions is, how do I make sure I still have my cPanel root account/password, so that I can log in to any of my customer's cPanel accounts, without knowing their individual usernames and passwords? I host my own website, as a cPanel account, so if I had to guess, than that account is the root account, correct? Thanks!

You will be able to log into any of your cpanel accounts with your new VPS root account and password.

I went ahead and had Host Gator move my accounts. I didn't want to mess with it. =)

Hello,
For anyone else who might come across this thread, cPanel's pretty good about preserving that stuff; if you just make cpanel backups of all of your sites and FTP them to the new host, they will have the same usernames, passwords, and owners when you restore them. |
