Question Moving host ~

Lets say I've already had a website hosted by Host Gator, lets say for 1 year. I decide that I want to kill what is presently hosted by Host Gator, and I want to move a website to this spot. How much will Host Gator charge me to do this transfer (knowing that I've already had the host for 1 year, and I'm not buying new service)?

Secondly, do you have tutorial showing how to move one host to another? ie how do I move my webforum to Host Gator by myself, without the help of Host Gator?

Check with HG Sales Staff. Who knows, the might move it for free. Might not. And it might only cost a few bucks and you won't have to worry about it.

If it past the first 30 days the transfer department would charge you. You may want to check out our tutorials to help you with this.

If your other host uses cpanel you can do a backup and upload it to your hosting here and have the admins restore it for you. If not, you can copy the files over with FTP. There should be a way to export from the old host and then import the database for the forum through cpanel/phpmyadmin.

Also, several of the private categories have practical tips about moving fora without disrupting member activity longer than necessary (i.e., when and how to cut off posts at old location and have everything appear at new).
