Default Moving to Host Gator

Hi,

I have decided to move my reseller account (14 sites with little traffic) to Host Gator since my current host is a disaster. I am interested in a Reseller Hosting Aluminum (basic) plan. Of course I do not want any downtime.

My questions:

1 -- When I place the order it asks for a domain name. Should I enter my current hosting domain name, the one I am using with the "disaster host"? Or should I create/purchase a new domain? I do not want any conflicts or problems.

2 -- Everywhere on Host Gator it is explained that if I fill a special form, they will do the move. I do not have clear if they will backup all my 14 sites entirely and restore them on HostGator? All automatically? They're all WP sites with sql databases.

3 -- Nameservers. Obviously now I have my own. Can I use them again if I host here? Or will I have different nameservers altogether once I move here?

Sorry for the newbie questions and thanks for any help.

I would use the existing reseller domain name you have at the other host. As far as your private name servers, all you have to do once everything has been copied over to hostgator, is change the ip address that the private name servers are currently pointed to.

You fill out a form at https://secure.hostgator.com/resellertransfer.php and then hostgator will copy the files and databases over. are you currently with a cpanel host, since that makes the copy over so much quicker.

Also DO NOT cancel your hosting account at the old hosting company for 72 hours after you have everything setup so that all of the domain names, dns and ip for the private name servers will have time to propagate and that way you won't have any down time.

Thanks! Sounds good, this means that my customers won't have to change the nameservers at their domains registrars (right?). Although I do not have clear yet how to "change the ip address that the private name servers are currently pointed to. ".

Yes I am on UNIX host, I manage the hosting site with WHM and all the sites with CPanel. I do not believe that hostgator needs the sql databases usernames and passwords, since I will provide login details to all the 14 CPanels, right? I am asking because in the transfer form page they say "If you have databases to be moved, you must specifically inform us where and how to access them in the instructions below."

Under that the form asks for username and password, this would be the Cpanels logins details right? (Not the databases).

They also ask the domain name of the previous hosting account, that would be, since I will be using the same domain, that it will be the same? Kind of confusing, previous hosting account domain will be the same as the Host Gator hosting account domain??

Sorry I've been in reseller hosting for only a couple of months and it's been a nightmare with the current host. I am just scared now to be moving all these sites and redoing everything.

The old hosts primary domain would be your old host's reseller primary domain.. And you only need to provide the cPanel usernames and passwords and HostGator will easily be able to transfer the accounts using full cPanel backup and restores.

I went ahead and purchased the Aluminum plan, also filled the transfer form yesterday, and today I got my 15 sites moved already! I've changed the host file in Windows to browse the sites and everything appears to be working flawlessly, and quite faster than my old host. So far I am very pleased with HostGator!
