Default moving from free forums

Hi guys i am going to probably sound like a newb here but i purchased my domain name through FreeForums.org and i have been wanting to move to a more advanced hosting plan that allows me more control. Now would i be able to move my forums to this hosting site and keep the domain name i purchased?

If you have access to the domain to make changes such as name servers, dns entries, etc., then yes. Should be very easy to make the transition.

Hmm... if your domain name is in the form of mydomain.freeforums.org I'm pretty sure you can't "take it with you", but I'm not sure.

(To those in the know, and for my future reference, can you?)

You should probably check with the current host to see if it is possible to change the nameservers to point to a separate hosting company account and whether it is possible to move the account to another host.

I did see an option on their site mentioning the possibility of backing up your account and I would guess that would be a database backup. If so then it would be possible to create an account here and set up PhpBB and then import the database.

I don't see why you can't. If you don't like freeforums, you can switch to another domain host such as Goddady and use a separate webhost such as HostGator.

I dont know specifically about freeforums, but if you register a domain, make sure that you do it through a ICANN approved registrar. These guys may be a reseller or something and I dont know what kind of a control you have.

Ideally you must be able to point it to anywhere you want, since you paid for the domain. Better, move the domain to godaddy or something and change the name server to point it to hostgator. You will have to ask the freeforums guys how to do this.
