This is not the first time this has happened for me, and it is the second time in the past month.
Every now and then, when I use Cpanel to move a file from one directory to another, it tells me after I have moved the file that it does not exist. I cannot rename it. I cannot delete it. I cannot edit it. I have tried in Cpanel and in FTP. The file won't go away. I can put a new file there with the exact same name, but then my script that reads the contents of the directory tell me there are two of the exact same file. When the tech person helped me out last time, they said I had a trailing slash on the end of the file name. I don't see that in Cpanel or FTP. They had to delete the entire folder the file was in to get rid of it for me, and I had to restore everything in that folder. Is this a bug within Cpanel? Is there a better way to handle this? And yes, I have a file sitting in a folder right now that won't let me do anything with it because of this problem. So, can one of the tech helpers help me get rid of it please? (I'll contact them on IM here in a second, but I would love an actual resolution to this problem so it doesn't keep happening.) Thanks. |

how about not using Cpanel to move files around. I think it would be faster anyway to hook up your FTP program, versus logging on to cpanel going to the file manager, etc., etc. I've never had a problem using FTP to move files around.

Not necessarily, if I am already in Cpanel creating and editing files, why wouldn't I just use it to move a single file that needed moved? I do have FTP set up, but it would take just as long to start the program, browse to the file location and then use it to move the file as it would to just use the function that Cpanel provides. My point is, why is that function there if it causes bugs? I shouldn't have to know to avoid using something - it shouldn't be there unless it works.
Anyway, they deleted the file for me. I had to recreate it with a completely new name because otherwise Cpanel thinks it's the same file all over again. Very annoying. I don't know if that's a cache thing causing that or what. |

point taken, I don't use Cpanel to create or edit files except .htaccess/paswd on occassion. Have you tried Cpanel's website, I believe they have a forum, should have a list of known bugs too.
