Moving Away From Hostgator ! [resolved]

I´m seriously considering moving from Hostgator, even though I´m overall quite satisfied.

Two issues:

1. Chat scripts are no longer allowed.
2. PHP limits can´t no longer be changed:

I´ve contacted several other large hosts about this, and they have no problem supporting the above.

Our ToS has always stated that chat scripts are not allowed and that has not changed at all recently.

How large of a php limit did you need on your shared account? Our policies on that have not changed recently either.

Since I can´t find sentence where you mention that local chat applications are not allowed - does this mean you allow it now ?

2. I need 50MB at least.

Brent (The CEO) modified the ToS yesterday, chat scripts are now allowed.

I just now had a chance to read this review.

We've always allowed locally hosted chats. I don't know who or when but someone removed a word before that in the tos at some point. I think it use to say locally hosted irc or something along those lines. Then hg employees read the tos and just followed what it said when people asked.

When I found out about this I got it fixed up asap. I apologize for this confusion!


As far as the limits you can easily get around this by adding it into your php.ini by doing this you can actually go up to 99mb without a problem.

That´s really weird Brent, I have asked support many times about both local hosted chat scripts and changing the limits, they said no, even here at this board they said no, so something is not right here.

But since you have fixed these issues, you can change this review to a positive.

Do you have any ticket numbers I can take a look at as far the limits? I'll need to get that corrected with people still.

Anyone can get around this on their own by just editing the php.ini from their own account to go up to 100mb.

Please note Brent, that of course I tried this before, but it didn´t work (check above topic) - the changes would not appear, I will try again tonight.
