Default More Support for Transfering a domain

I don't know if you would call it "support" but somewhat of a page that can guide you though the process. Cause its not workin for me..
ie...
Step one... This is the information you need to know before continueing.
Go here and do this ensure this....
Then do this etc etc.....

My "adventure" so far has not been the best I don't know if i did anything wrong and/or how to fix it. Plus i hate waiting

A Few weeks ago I cancled my hosting with a different provider. And came to HG On last Sunday.

I will admit i am not "up to snuff" on everything. So i got the hosting (was nice and easy) then afterwords i got onto support asking what i had to do to transfer my domain. I was sent to a link,i went filled out the form payed my $15 etc etc. Went to where my old domain was and made sure that is was clicked to be able to transfer.
So the big mistake here was i never needed to "transfer" my domain it was only a month old... I only had to Update my DNS
but anywho its only $15

So were here now. Its Wensday and i went to see if it was pointing to my site. But it is poiting to the IP Address (same as the one you get in the sign-up minus the username.

I went to support this morning and they just refered me to sending an e-mail to support. (i have no idea how long this will take)

I'm trying to not make this a Vent or anything but to point out its very easy to get lost while doing something. The Chat support is nice but you can tell there talking to many different people at once and seem to get "lost" in the process. The wait time to get on is amazing and there Friendly enough i suppose.

1. have you uploaded your site to your new hostgator account?

2. have you changed the nameserver info on the domain records to whatever hg gave you?

those two things, and about 24hours, is what it takes to make the domain point to your hg version of the site.

In sunday i set up my site and transfered the DNS. When I type in my URL i get http://##.##.##.###/ the ip is the same as the one i got in my e-mail minus the ~username But as i stated i ended up "Tranfering my domain name" I never knew at first all i had to do was update my DNS.
Still nothing back on the e-mail ticket thing.

How long does e-mail support usually take? I know that by now it "should" be working.

It sounds as if the difference between domain registering and domain hosting may have caught you up.

By "transfering", do you mean the domain name or the site content?

OK lets see if i can explain this better. I had hosting with antoher company. Sunday I switched to HG, since i already had a domain i just needed hosting. Later on Sunday i went to to support to see how to transfer my domain name so it would point to my HG info.

Its still not pointing to my site but rather the IP of the server, regardless it not pointing to my site but a HG IP that is not my site.

Does this clarify it a bit?
Im not up to snuff on all this stuff, i prefer to stick to webdesign. (alot easyer IMO) lol

Kevin

How long does it take for e-mail support tickets usually?

Kevin,

Do you get to your DNS records by logging into http://www.hostgator.com/domains? If not, how do you get to your DNS settings?

Kevin,

If you tell us the domain name, it will make things easier.

There are two concepts that you have to keep separate when asking a question:

1. Domain Name. This is something like fro-froo dot com. A registrar holds that name and points it to nameservers that tell us where to go for your hosted site.

2. Hosting. Ok, we know you're with Hostgator now. You're web pages have to be copied to the correct location on a Hostgator server.

Do you have a copy of your website?

Ha i just wrote a long reply, But during it about 10 seconds before i got an e-mail.
I hope i never confused to many pople other than myself in this. But as in the origional post. When i signed up for hosting. The first option is
I will use My Existing Domain and update My Nameservers only.
I would recomend (for peple like me) to include a link or more information at that time. Although i am sure most people are very up to snuff on this... there are a few that are not.
I also wanted to say that 99% of the reason i cae to HG was because on these forums. Any company that puts up support forums for ANYONE to see the GOOD and BAD. Thats something!
Support has been great

Kevin,
This started as on-hold because it was the first ticket you opened from this email address and you had not authenticated your email address in our ticket system. I have corrected your site and now when you view the domain it shows your test hmtl page. Have a great day. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

Although still not showing corectly for me, Im sure it will soon
I deleted my cookies etc etc But ill wait another day and see what happens.
My site is www.irnoob.com this works http://74.52.78.210/~kevinm/

http://www.checkdns.net/quickcheck.a...com&detailed=1

Shows that you have a permanent redirect on your site.
Check your cpanel to see if you can remove it.

Good find!
I went to CPanel -> Redirects
Gives you a drop down for Remove Redirect:

But nothing there...
Maybe it will just take a little time.

Have you looked to see if there is anything in the .htaccess file in your public_html folder? Something looks odd since the domain also goes to the IP address for me. I would also check your WordPress configuration settings to be sure everything refers to the domain and not an IP.
