This is for any other people like me (those who are easily confused).
HOST GATOR SUPPORT IS GREAT! Background I use a 3rd party domain registry service. I use Host Gator for any accounts that need more disk space or who want to have emails associated with their web site. Enter Google Mail One of my customers wanted to move their email service to Google, in order to take advantage of some of the goole apps. They wanted the web site to remain with me. I read through different forum threads, but was concerned that they wouldn't apply to me since I used a different domain registry service. Enter Host Gator Support Staff I sent an email (ticket) to Host Gator support, and they sent me back the instructions of what needed to be done. To be safe, I also contacted my domain registry service. They (the 3rd party domain registry service) told me that the changes needed to be done on the Host Gator side, as Host Gator was the DNS server. I contacted Host Gator asking for a phone call to arrange everything. They replied that they would be happy to call me if I really wanted a phone call, but that they had a simple script which they could run that would handle everything. Happy Ending I said "yes, run the script". Shortly afterwards they had run the script and were apologizing to me that it took so long to get it done (I've taken longer naps then it took them). Way to go Host Gator staff. ![]() MX Setting I did need to go into the control panel for the domain and set the MX entry to always use external mail server. If local mail server is specified, then any email generated by a host gator account using host gator mail server will get delivered to the old host gator webmail area for that domain. Setting to use external mail servers results in all mail being delivered to the google mail server for the domain. (This last section added Sep 4, 2011). Good Afternoon,
Thank you for taking time review your recent support experience! We're happy to have been able to assist you with configuring Google mail DNS records. Though I do apologize for that delay just prior to the records being configured. We definitely spend a lot of time trying to streamline processes with our services to be able to expedite setup of different services we offer, glad to hear this made things easier though! If there should be any thing at all I can assist you with in the future, feel free to contact me directly here on the forums! Thank you again for the review! Best Regards,

Thank you Joshua.
Please don't misunderstand my comment about the minor delay. I did not feel there was any delay worth apologizing for. If I had wanted instaneous results I would have used Live Chat. I was quite happy and have no complaints/concerns whatsover. Bill |
