Hostgator strikes me as a mix of very competent to completely incompetent.
I purchased a domain and have received good support for it. I tried to transfer two other domains to Hostgator using the manual process available via my control panel. One seemed to go smoothly and the other failed and I was sent an email saying so. I contacted Hostgator about the issue and sent them the proper password from the other hosting site and asked them to look into it. I got an email back saying please pay us 30 dollars and we will transfer the domains. I responded that I had already paid 30 dollars and wanted to know what the issue was with the transfers. I got another email saying, oh, send us 15 dollars then, which domain didn't transfer? Since I have already paid for both domain transfers, both domains are held by the same 3rd party, both were purchased at the same time, etc... there is no reason one would fail and one would not. Moreover, there is no reason that Hostgator would not have access to the records of my attempted transfer. After 5-10 email I have no explanation of the issue, only requests to send more money for a process which already failed and for which Hostgator apparently can not search its own records. How can it be so hard for a major web-hosting company to transfer domain registration and keep track of PAID FOR attempts through its own services. Caveat Emptor. Hostgator -A+ for new domains and support, F---- for transferring and trouble shooting transferring. Last edited by GatorDHanna; 04-08-2009 at 10:42 PM. Reason: Marked as resolved. |

Hi there,
The domain transfer process is a confusing mess anywhere and the way we do it at HostGator isn't as smooth as it could be (due to limitations with our billing system, which is on its way out). I apologize about the trouble you've had with the process. I found the ticket you have with us regarding the domain transfer. I'm about to reply to it now. Thanks for your patience.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I figured that their were tiers to the people responding to me. The prior individuals just tried to get another 30 dollars from me without looking into the process at all even though I told them I'd already paid.

OK, I see ACSSTATISTICALCONSULTING.ORG has begun to be transfered but still not ACSSTATISTICALCONSULTING.NET even though I have been recharged. What gives? Time lag?

One of our representatives is in the process of reply to your ticket now. However, it looks like the transfer has been initiated and is awaiting approval. By now, you should have received the transfer verification email.
